Mary Koslowsky was honored by the Lena Lions Club for her volunteer service to the Lena community.
Mary is the daughter of the late George and Marion Glime. She grew up on a farm and graduated from Lena High School in 1970.
Mary graduated from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls with a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education. Upon graduation, she returned to Lena and was hired to teach at Lena Elementary School.
In 1975, she married Kenneth Koslowsky. They are the parents of two adult children, Jim and Jodie, and have five grandchildren.
Mary taught grades one through six at Lena Elementary School for 38 years and volunteered at the school. She also volunteered to teach faith formation classes at Holy Cross Catholic Parish for many years.
She earned a master’s degree in education from Viterbo University and attended workshops at UW-Green Bay and St. Norbert College.
During her professional career she belonged to the Lena Education Association, the Wisconsin Education Association and the National Education Association.
She said her most memorable moment in teaching was “when the students finally understood the material being taught.”
Mary’s hobbies are photography, gardening, reading, camping, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren.
Mary thanked the Lions for the award and said her parents made many sacrifices so she could attend college. She deeply appreciated their support.
The Lena Lions appreciate her volunteer efforts and the many years she spent educating the students in the Lena School District.
