Shirley Mae (Reed) Cook, 78, Lena, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at home. She was born June 17, 1935, in Oconto to the late John B. and Margaret (Pillsbury) Reed.
She graduated from Oconto High School in 1954. On May 14, 1955, Shirley married William “Bill” Cook, of Lena, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Oconto. He preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 2012. Together with their children they farmed their whole lives in the Lena area. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly and cared for them all. The family always enjoyed “Grandma’s meatballs” at special occasions.
Shirley was an active homemaker and throughout the years helped with her children’s activities at school and at church. She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Parish, Lena, and worked on the town of Lena election board.
Survivors include her four children, Stanley (Janet) Cook, Sylvester “Salvo” Cook (special friend Connie), Scott (Janice) Cook and Wendy (Mike) Klaus, all of Lena; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roger (Linda) Reed, Oconto, and David (Charlotte) Reed, Pound; two sisters, Joan (Harlin) Nowak and Cindy Reed, both of Oconto; and one sister-in-law, Lucille (Ron) Reinert, Thiensville.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John W. “Jack” Reed and Dale Reed Sr.
Friends called Dec. 7 at St. Anne Catholic Church, Lena. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at the church, with the Rev. Celestine Byekwaso officiating.
