A Madison company has been selected to oversee the acquisition of 14 properties in the neighborhood of a proposed law enforcement center.
The Oconto County Board on Thursday approved a contract with SRF Consulting Group for not more than $170,065. The company will oversee the acquisition, relocation and razing of the buildings located one block north of the courthouse.
Rose Stellmacher cast the only no vote, saying the vote should be delayed until the city of Oconto agrees to vacate an alley and a road at the proposed site. The county has asked the city to vacate Adams Street and two alleys between Adams and Jefferson streets.
Oconto County Administrative Coordinator Kevin Hamann said he was confident an agreement could be made.
“I fully expect we’ll be able to work it out with the city,” he said.
The firm is scheduled to meet with property owners from 5:30-7 p.m. March 5 in Room 1003 at the Oconto County Courthouse, then meet with the public at 7 p.m.
The law enforcement center is scheduled to be built on a 4.7-acre block adjacent to the courthouse in Oconto. It would replace an outdated facility in the courthouse complex that needs major repairs and has limited capacity. Construction of the $25 million center is scheduled to begin in 2015.
The city of Oconto is forming an ad hoc committee of residents and city leaders who will meet with county officials regarding the aesthetics of the building, parking, utilities and other issues.
The Oconto City Council on Feb. 11 established the composition of the committee: three alderpersons, three citizen representatives and six city employees.
Alderpersons Jean Pleshek, Sheri Groll and Bob LaBreck were selected to represent the City Council. Citizen representatives are scheduled to be selected at the Committee of the Whole meeting March 4.
The following day, the ad hoc committee is scheduled to meet with the county’s Law Enforcement and Judiciary Committee.
