Four contestants will compete for the title of Junior Fairest of the Fair on March 1 at Oconto Falls High School. Final judging is open to the public and begins at 3 p.m.
The contestants will be judged on their interview skills, ability to answer impromptu questions, public speaking, professionalism, enthusiasm and their knowledge of the fair.
The winners of the Junior and Senior Fairest of the Fair contest will represent Oconto County and serve as hostesses at the 2014 Oconto County Fair from Aug. 14-17.
Hanna Brock is the daughter of Ryan and Johna Brock, of Gillett. She attends Gillett Middle School and is involved in volleyball, basketball, student council and FFA. She enjoys horseback riding and showing animals and arts and crafts at the fair. She is active in her church and is the reporter for her 4-H club. She said she would like to be Junior Fairest of the Fair because she likes meeting new people, and it would be a great experience to be more involved at the fair. Her sponsor is Suring Milling.
Aubrey DeBauch is the daughter of Chad and Michele DeBauch, of Gillett. She attends Gillett Elementary School and is involved in basketball, softball, band and the school newspaper. She enjoys horseback riding, fishing, hunting, and showing cattle, flowers, vegetables and photography at the fair. She is active at her church and is treasurer for her 4-H club. She said she would like to be Junior Fairest of the Fair because it would give her the opportunity to learn about new projects and other parts of the fair and to be a role model for young exhibitors. Her sponsor is Brown Star Farms.
Amber Jo Farrar is the daughter of Lori Schuettpelz, of Little Suamico. She attends Sunnyside Elementary School and is involved in choir. She enjoys horseback riding and learning about horses. She is active in knitting club and 4-H, helps work the 4-H food stand, and shows her horse, flowers, scrapbooking and rabbits at the fair. She said she would like to be Junior Fairest of the Fair to develop her leadership skills, be more involved with community events and encourage everyone to go to the fair. Her sponsor is Lori Schuettpelz.
Lauren Herzog is the daughter of Jon and Mary Herzog, of Gillett. She attends Gillett Middle School and is involved in student council, band, cross-country, track and basketball. She enjoys running, quilting with her grandma, riding horses and taking care of her Brown Swiss heifer named Brisk that she shows at the fair. She is active at her church, volunteers for the humane society and a homeless shelter in Green Bay, and is treasurer for her 4-H club. She said she would like to be Junior Fairest of the Fair to get more involved in her community, and she believes it will be a great learning experience to develop her public speaking skills. Her sponsor is Budget Blinds East of Green Bay.
