Gerald “Jerry” Young, 87, of Shawano passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at his home. Jerry was born May 14, 1939, in Outagamie to the late Bernard and Angarose (Lyons) Young.
He attended Shiocton High School before entering the United States Army where he served his country proudly from 1956-58. On Sept. 9, 1961, Jerry was united in marriage to the love of his life, Linda Kamke, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Stephensville.
He worked in construction before owning and operating Young’s Tap in Hortonville from 1964-69, then opening Jerry’s Country Sound in Shawano from 1970-95 before finishing his career as a bartender at the Menominee Casino. He retired at the age of 70.
Jerry was active in the tavern league and loved watching sports, especially the Packers and Brewers. He was witty, social, loved his work but most of all loved and adored his wife. Jerry taught his children how to properly treat a woman by the way he loved Linda.
Jerry is survived by his sons, Jack (Jessica) Young and Joel (Joan) Young, both of Shawano; eight grandchildren, Alex (Amanda) Young, Emily (Marco) Castro, Kate (Andrew) Baird, Dominic Young, Skyler Young, Leonardo (fiancé, Antoinette Herrera) Young, Wyatt Young and Dr. Scarlett (Jordan) Feest, DDS; and brothers, Ben (Kathy) Young and Eugene (Lorraine) Young. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jerry is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Linda; siblings, Phyllis, Lee, Lorien, Norman and Nathan; and parents, Bernard and Angarose.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, at Shawano American Legion Post 117 from noon until 4 p.m.
