Facing No. 4 Bowler, the top-seeded Marion High School girls basketball team was in no mood for an upset Friday in the WIAA Division 5 regional in Marion.
The Mustangs won 45-22, taking an 11-4 lead after the first quarter, extending it to 22-8 by halftime and outscoring Bowler 12-4 in the third and 11-10 in the fourth.
Cassidy Detert, 5-foot-7 junior forward, led Marion (21-2, 17-1 Central Wisconsin Conference-10) with 10 points.
The Mustangs corralled Ashlynn Brisk, holding the junior guard who has led Bowler with eight triple-doubles this season to just eight points. Brisk also had six rebounds, two assists and five steals. Sequoia Wayka added five points and three steals.
The Panthers (11-10, 7-8 CWC-10) were playing without freshman Taylor Matsche, who suffered a concussion against Tigerton on Tuesday. Matsche averaged 14 points per game for the Panthers.
Marion will host No. 2 Newman Catholic, which beat No. 3 Elcho 66-33 Friday, in the regional final Saturday night.
