The town of Little Suamico needs to strongly consider a part-time administrator. Little Suamico is the largest municipality in Oconto County. With the poor leadership that we have in Little Suamico and its lack of knowledge and/or completely ignoring Wisconsin statutes, we need to look for the future of our town.
As recently as fall 2013, we noticed our chairman and town board’s failure to follow specific statutes in regards to bidding the shouldering of South Chase Road and giving it to a local company without properly bidding it out, even though the bill was almost $14,000. As stated specifically under Wisconsin statutes, Chapter 60.47 (2) a), no town may enter into a public contract with an estimated cost of more than $5,000, but not more than $25,000 unless the town board … gives a class 1 notice. No notice was given.
Our town board, specifically Chairman Elmer Ragen, gave it to one of the good old boys. Even when this was brought to the attention of Supervisors David Pribyl and Doug Allen, they also ignored this violation.
There was also no notice put in the newspaper when getting bids for snowplowing.
The above violations are common practice of the town of Little Suamico and need to stop immediately as they are recklessly spending our tax dollars. The “good old boy government” continues, and this needs to change.
We sent a letter to our board, dated Dec. 29, 2013, to be read in as correspondence at our Jan. 13, 2014, meeting, and it was ignored and not read, even when this was brought to the attention of our newly hired clerk/treasurer. It is very obvious that our town chairman discriminates.
Town of Little Suamico residents, I encourage you to view the town’s website, attend meetings and ask that we hire an administrator to market our town and grow, and not be held back by poor leadership.
