To the editor:
Gov. Scott Walker is all about image. Why else would he have someone take his picture in his blaze orange with gun in hand the first morning of deer season and have it posted on Twitter?
His book, “Unintimidated,” is about building his image as a tough guy. Unfortunately, many people are “intimidated” because of his policies. His first push for power was to coerce Republican legislators to vote for Act 10. Stripping public employees of their bargaining rights has had a negative effect on public school districts and county governments.
By not accepting billions in federal Medicaid dollars provided in the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), the governor can uphold his anti-government image. This sits well with his right wing billionaire buddies who are willing to pump all kinds of money into his run for president. By not accepting these funds, he intimidates 170,000 poor people, costs the state $86 million in this biennium and fails to create 10,000 jobs.
Now, to make it look like he cares about them, he has called a special health care session. Extending the time before 77,000 poor people were to be cut off Badgercare from Dec. 31 to March 31 solves the problem for a few months, but this doesn’t help another 80,000 adults who will be denied any type of health care coverage until April 1.
It is unacceptable that this goes on in a country as great as ours. We need a governor who is not concerned about image. Our governor has shown that his image is more important than developing policies that help the vast majority of Wisconsinites.
