The wealthiest group of immigrants to settle in the United States were the supporters of Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista.
The Cuban people led by Fidel Castro revolted against wealthy landowners and corporate and business titans that controlled Cuba and its wealth. Under Batista, Cuba was an entertainment center for rich foreigners, and the majority of Cubans worked as servants and sugar cane harvesters.
The followers of Batista settled in Florida and became a major force in the Republican Party. They are behind having the United States impose sanctions hoping they would lead to Castro’s downfall so they could return to Cuba and recapture their property, wealth and privileges.
Two first-generation Cubans are now serving in the United States Senate. Marco Rubio, Florida, and Ted Cruz, Texas, are both lecturing the American public on freedom, democracy, and social and economic justice.
Sen. Cruz’s father is an evangelical preacher that calls President Obama a socialist, Marxist, Muslim and birther in spite of the fact that President Obama was born in Hawaii. Ted Cruz was born in Canada and only recently renounced joint citizenship.
Twenty-five percent of Texans don’t have health insurance. More than a million of them are children. Texas turned down hundreds of millions of federal Medicaid dollars that provide health care services for the poor.
Sen. Cruz has health insurance paid for by the federal government. His wife works for Goldman Sacs and is provided with an employee health insurance plan costing $42,000 annually.
Dictator Batista would be proud of Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio.
