John Dahlie

John William Dahlie, 72, of Weston, passed away March 9, 2026, after his courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Marshfield on Sept. 17, 1953, to the late Norman and Carol (Ohm) Dahlie. He married Katherine Jean Claire Seeger in 1977.

John graduated from Phillips High School and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in environmental public health. He continued his education and graduated from Marquette University where he earned his doctor of dental surgery (DDS).

Following graduation, John worked in Milwaukee for a year before moving to Shawano, where he practiced dentistry for more than 40 years. He enjoyed regaling his patients with his wide array of material including tales from his farm, hunting stories, little known facts and dad jokes. He also frequently asked questions while patients’ mouths were open, which was likely for his entertainment.

John was a great storyteller, and his favorite topic was his family, proudly sharing updates on his children’s and grandchildren’s lives and accomplishments. He loved them beyond words and watching their numerous activities was one of his favorite things to do.

John was a dedicated member of Divine Savior Lutheran Church in Shawano for 44 years, before becoming a member of Forgiven Lutheran Church in Kronenwetter. At Divine Savior, he held various leadership roles in the church council and school board and was a regular usher and greeter.

In his limited free time, he enjoyed managing his “hobby” farm, where he and his family raised a variety of animals. He also spent a significant amount of time fixing fence, chasing the cows that got through the “fixed” fence and eventually selling the cows, because they wouldn’t stay inside the fence. John was an avid hunter, who just enjoyed being in the woods. He and Kathy also loved taking trips and cruises after the kids left the house.

John was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather and emphasized to his family to remain faithful to God. He will be dearly missed, but the sting of death is gone, because he is with God in heaven.

He is survived by Kathy, his wife of 48 years; five children, Andrew (Michelle) Dahlie, David (Melanie) Dahlie, Beth (Luke) Krueger, Emily (Jesse) Stodall and Michael Dahlie; 10 grandchildren, Tyler, Tanner, Mason, Brianna, Johanna, Ethan, Eli, Carson, Adelynn and Charlotte; brother, Dr. Peter (Kathi) Dahlie; sister, Kathy Meyer; mother-in-law, Shirley Seeger; sister-in-law, Trisha Dahlie; brother-in-law, Rick (Roberta) Seeger; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Carol; brother Bob; father-in-law, the Rev. Richard Seeger; brother-in-law, Rick Meyer; and sister-in-law, Wendy Dahlie.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Divine Savior Lutheran Church in Shawano. The Rev. Fred Berger and the Rev. Joseph Neuberger will officiate. Visitation will be on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 4-7 p.m. at the church. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family request’s contributions be made to the Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary’s Rev. Richard M. Seeger Scholarship memorial fund.
