Virginia R. Meyer, 84, of Clintonville, passed away Saturday afternoon, Feb. 8, 2020, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center, Neenah.
Virginia Rose Meyer was born Sept. 6, 1935, in Shawano as the daughter of the late Reynold and Myrtle (Koeller) Zoglman. After graduating from Shawano High School in 1953, Virginia worked with her parents at Pine Acres Motel in Shawano and Zoglman’s Meat Market, Gresham. Her grandfather helped her get a start managing her own grocery store called Zogie’s Market, right on Shawano Lake.
Virginia met Leroy “Chub” G. Meyer in Clintonville; the couple later was united in marriage on July 25, 1959, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. She then worked at the Clintonville Canning Factory and, later, Wanta’s Floral, Clintonville.
Virginia fully retired around 2010 but continued doing things she loved, including crocheting afghans, puzzles and computer games. She liked to try her luck at the casino and took regular vacations to Las Vegas with family.
Virginia had the opportunity to visit all lower 48 states during her lifetime. She also was a notable card player; she played in card clubs at both the senior center and through St. Rose Church, sheepshead being her favorite. Virginia will be remembered for being a social person who was always sweet and friendly to others.
Survivors include children, Gene (Kristen) Meyer, Clintonville, Jane (Dan) Etheridge, Clintonville, Janet (Kevin) Knaup, Clintonville, and Pam (Brian) Schertz, Franklin; grandchildren, Ryan (Jenny) Meyer, Angela Meyer, Chelsie (Ryan) Wendt, Brooke (special friend Wyatt Reinke) Pethke, Justin Pethke, Michelle (Kyle) Froh, Randy Knaup, Kristin (Travis) Anderson, Kraig (special friend Jenny Melbauer) Knaup, Chad Schertz, Justin Schertz and Karyn Meyer; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Brianna, Carson, Braeden, Cameron, Jayden, Landon and Mya; brother, Lawrence Zoglman; sisters-in-law, Shirley Meyer, Glorianne Meyer, Joyce Meyer, Donnabelle Waite and Sharon Lange; and brothers-in-law, Gary (Twyla) Meyer and Allen (Donna) Meyer.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leroy; a son, Donald Lee Meyer; a grandson, Bryan Meyer; a brother, Elmer Zoglman; her father- and mother-in-law, Gordon (Alvina) Meyer; sisters-in-law, Barb Zoglman and Jeanette (Don) Rosenheim; and brothers-in-law, David Meyer, Roger Meyer, Gordon Meyer, David Waite, Ron Lange and Clem Hupke.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2020, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Clintonville with the Rev. David Komatz officiating. Interment will take place at St. Rose Catholic Cemetery in Clintonville. The visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church until the time of service.
