Gertrude C. Schmidt “Gertie,” of Wittenberg, passed away peacefully at her home on Feb. 8, 2022, surrounded by family. She was born on June 2, 1930, in Cudahy, daughter of the late Robert and Emma Bell. Gert raised her family in Waukesha until moving to the Hatley area in 1970 to operate Lost Lake Resort. She was a people person and loved the connections she made with her customers while working at Shell and North Star Casino. She will always be remembered for her stature and smile.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, watching birds, and watching the Packers and Brewers.
Survivors include her children, Charles (Marilee) Schmidt, Kay Schmidt, Bonnie (Cliff) Groshek, Ken (Judie) Schmidt, Bill Schmidt and Ann Schmidt; her grandchildren, Christopher (Ayse), Eric (Tara), Matthew (Amanda), Sara (Greg), Jason (Bree), Jamie (Laurie), Jackie, Cherie, Tammy (Duane), Nathan (Jodie), Amanda (Eric), Courtney (Zach), Caleb (Tera), Robin (Erik), Stacey (Kris) and Charlie; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews; and extended family, Jody Wodora.
Beside her parents, Gert was preceded in death by her sons, Timothy, Donald and Lee; sister, Geraldine; and grandchildren, Dustin and Robert.
Per Gert’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. A private celebration of life will be held at a later time.
