Eugene “Gene” P. Fenn

Eugene “Gene” P. Fenn, 89, passed away Friday, Oct. 7, 2022. A former resident of Seymour and Shawano, he moved to Oakdale, California, in 2011 to be closer to his daughter. Born Oct. 20, 1932, in Green Bay to the late Earl and Lois (Echtner) Fenn, Gene grew up in Seymour where he graduated from Seymour High School in 1950, then attended business school in Green Bay for 2½ years. He was a licensed insurance agent for 20 years, treasurer and assistant secretary of the Shawano Savings & Loan Association for 15 years, with a lifetime of accounting and income tax preparation. He was a past member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Wisconsin, past president of the Seymour Bowling Association and past member of the Holy Name Society, St. John’s Catholic Church, Seymour. Gene is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joyce (Liethen), married Aug. 21, 1954, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Seymour. They were avid bowlers and followers of the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers and enjoyed the family cottage on Shawano Lake in earlier years. Gene enjoyed fishing, gardening and do-it-yourself projects. They would later live year-round on Shawano Lake for 32 years before moving to California. He is also survived by three children, Steve Fenn (Val) of Rice Lake, David Fenn of Rothschild and Lori (Robert) Lubeck of Oakdale, California; six grandchildren, Susan (Jeff) Okonkowski of South Lyon, Michigan, Mike (Sara) Fenn of Milwaukee, Taylor Fenn (Riley) of Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota, Ryan (Jen) Glaeser of Oakdale, California, Michael (Karli) Glaeser of Oakdale, California, and Daniel Lubeck of Oakdale, California; and eight great-grandchildren Savannah and Jonathan Okonkowski, Aiden abd Olivia Fenn, Ezekiel Glaeser and Madison, Kendall and Matthew Glaeser. He is preceded in death by son, Thomas, (Aug. 22, 1967 to June 21, 1977), his parents Earl and Lois (Echtner) Fenn and his in-laws Clarence and Naureen (Komp) Liethen. Private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Gene’s memory to Community Hospice Foundation, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356. Franklin & Downs Funeral Home, Modesto, and Valley Crematory are assisting the family with arrangements.
