Donald Ahlborg, 96, of Oconto Falls, passed away peacefully on Nov. 5, 2022, at Country Villa in Pulaski. Donald was born on May 31, 1926 in Oconto Falls, son of Louis and Louise (Brown) Ahborg. He was the middle of three siblings. On Aug. 20, 1955, he married Jeanne (Moede) Ahlborg in Oconto Falls. They were married for 65 years.
Growing up, Donald learned the value of hard work and had a great appreciation for the outdoors. That stayed with him, his entire life. In the early years, Don along with Jeanne ran their dairy farm until he retired many years later. He greatly enjoyed tending to his garden, picking berries, and making maple syrup. He took great pride in sharing his crop with friends and family.
Don enjoyed fishing trips with his buddies to Canada and Minnesota, and traveling to Hawaii and Europe with his wife, Jeanne. He was especially proud of the 11 years playing outfield with the Gillett, Green Valley and Oconto Falls baseball teams.
Don appreciated time with his children and grandchildren. Many fond memories include collecting sap for making maple syrup, making and selling firewood, hunting weekends, saddling up the horses, snowmobile and three-wheeler rides, and walks through the family woods. He loved a good joke, Friday fish frys, and his “sweet treats.”
Don is survived by his three children, Deborah (John) Hickey, of Wausau, Dennis (Bonnie) Ahlborg, of Appleton, and Douglas (Lisa) Ahlborg, of Green Bay; eight grandchildren, Shiara (Keller) Caubarreaux, of Colorado, Sean (Emmy) Hickey, of Montana, Shane (Jenna) Hickey, of Washington, Drew (Kerri), Denny (Megan) Ahlborg, Meghan (Troy) Gilbert, all of Appleton, Abby (Ryan) Porter and Mike (Nikki) Ahlborg, both of Green Bay; nine great-grandchildren, Kellin, Kaydence, Adalyn, Hadley, Owen, Maeley, George, Asher, and Leo; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Moede; several nieces and nephews and good friends, Bud and Mark.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Ahlborg; parents; sisters, Grace Datillo (and husband Jerome) and Betty Larson; brother-in-law, Gerald Moede; sister-in-law, Janice Genz.
Don’s wishes were to have a private family service.
