Harold Louis Buettner, 98, of the town of Richmond, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born on Sept. 27, 1915, in the town of Richmond, he was the son of the late Albert and Anna (Sperberg) Buettner.
In December 1940, Harold enlisted with the United States Army and served his country for nearly five years during World War II. He was honorably discharged from service in October 1945. On Sept. 18, 1948, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Martzke at St. Jakobi Lutheran Church. After marriage, the couple made their home, raised their family and farmed in the town of Richmond. Harold also worked as a carpenter for Bob Kroenke and later worked at Phoenix Garage Doors until retiring. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano and a former member of St. Jakobi Lutheran Church, in the town of Richmond, where he was an usher and served on the finance committee.
Harold is survived by his daughter, Janet (Terry) Misich, of Alexandria, Va.; his son, Keith (Judy) Buettner, of Milwaukee; two grandchildren, Sara (Scott) Steinke and Luke (fiancé, Sarah Datka) Buettner; two great-grandchildren, Jamie and Tucker Steinke. Also surviving are two brothers, Charles (Eileen) Buettner, of Shawano, and Rudolph Buettner, of Shawano; and numerous other relatives.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, on Nov. 29, 1993, his parents, 11 siblings as well as numerous other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014, at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano with the Rev. Ted Andrada officiating. Burial and military rites conducted by Shawano American Legion Post 117 will be at St. Jakobi Lutheran Cemetery in the town of Richmond in the spring. Visitation will be held at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Friday from 4-7 p.m. and at St. James Lutheran Church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
