Under new management by Brent Gruetzmacher, the property at 108 E. Main St. in Gillett hosted an open house Sept. 4.
The former Kuehl Funeral Home received a facelift, with interior and exterior renovations beginning almost immediately after the transition of ownership, which took place last December.
Dozens of community members toured the renovations, while enjoying light refreshments and exchanging pleasantries with the Gruetzmacher family and other dignitaries.
A few minutes after 4 p.m., attendees stepped out into the brisk autumn-like afternoon as the Gillett Area Chamber of Commerce commenced the ribbon cutting ceremony.
The ribbon seemed to almost be made of Kevlar, as Gruetzmacher’s son attempted to snip with the oversized scissors, but to no avail. After much good-hearted laughter, the ribbon was finally cut and attendees went back inside to warm up with coffee and parlor conversation.
“We want Gillett to have a gathering place again, a place for comfort and compassion on those worst of days,” Gruetzmacher said.
