Gaylord “Bub” Harry Strehlow, 88, Suring, passed away at Woodland Village Nursing Home on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013. He was born Nov. 22, 1925, to the late William Jr. and Clara (Guelker) Strehlow.
Bub was a graduate of Suring High School, where he excelled in boxing, track and football.
He married Melanie Lanser on Aug. 30, 1946, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 13, 2003. They started out farming, and later Bub became a bookkeeper for Muehl Ehlinger Lumber Company for 10 years. He received his degree in accounting by doing home study. In 1962, he was employed as the Oconto County accountant for 15 years prior to becoming the Oconto County clerk in 1977. He retired from the Oconto County clerk position in 1998.
Bub owned and operated Bub’s Pub in Hayes for many years with his wife, Melanie, and was very proud of his Bub’s Pub baseball teams.
Bub was a member of Suring United Methodist Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved to garden, growing enough vegetables for all his children and their families. Bub truly loved all sports and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s events.
He is survived by five children, Linda (Larry) LaBrosse, Judy (Mike) McGuire, Amy (Gary) Regal, Ron (Donna) Strehlow and Gary (Doreen) Strehlow; two brothers, Marvin “Pete” (Clara) Strehlow and Curtis (Audrey) Strehlow; three sisters, Betty “Poots” (Norman) Saffran, Fern Cramer and Fay (Tom) Stache; 15 grandchildren, Candi, Brandi, Rick, Tracey, Samantha, Andrew, Nathan, Aaron, Josh, Riley, Brooke, Chelsie, Blake, Stacy and Sara; nine great-grandchildren, Kyle, Brianne, Megan, Morgan, Broden, Clay, Macie, Marlee and Alison; two great-great-grandchildren, Riley and Kyle. Bub is further survived by his special friend, Pat Hilbert, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bub was preceded in death by his wife, Melanie; two brothers, Llewyllen “Lew” and Roland “Park”; two sisters, Beulah Lazansky and Kay Dhein.
Visitation was held Sunday, Dec. 22, at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring. Visitation continued Monday at Suring United Methodist Church from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dan Nault officiating. Bub will in interred in spring in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
