Gary Gallagher, 74, Oconto Falls, died Sunday morning, Nov. 24, 2013, at a Green Bay hospital with his family present. He was born July 23, 1939, in Oconto Falls to Clifford and Orpha (Poppe) Gallagher.
Gary grew up in Oconto Falls, where he attended public schools, graduating from high school with the Class of 1957. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served in Alaska and Canada refueling airplanes.
On Sept. 18, 1965, he married Victoria Garland in Suring. The couple lived all their married lives in Oconto Falls, where Gary was employed by Oconto Falls Public Schools in their custodial department for over 25 years. He also worked as a courier for the school toward the end of his time with the district. As a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls, Gary once served on the church council, ushered and counted money for many years.
Survivors are his wife of 48 years, Vicky Gallagher, Oconto Falls; their two children, the Rev. Kellie (the Rev. Stan) Gallagher-Smith, Louisburg, N.C.; Michael (Tarra) Gallagher, Green Bay; four grandchildren, Dottie and Wilson Gallagher-Smith, Delaney and Cassidy Gallagher; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Peterson, Green Bay; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Janet Gallagher, Shawano, Keith (Debbie) Garland, Green Bay, Judy (Bob) McCabe, Denmark, and Pat (Paul) Hansen, Two Rivers; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lowell Gallagher; one brother-in-law, Kerry Garland; and one special aunt, Lois Bonke.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls. Visitation will continue after 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, at Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls until the time of service. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with Pastor Larry Bong officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oconto Falls.
