Florence Drella, 93, formerly of Krakow, died peacefully in her sleep Thursday morning, Feb. 20, 2014, at a Green Bay hospital, four days shy of her 94th birthday. The daughter of John and Veronica (Drewiske) Maternoski was born Feb. 24, 1920, in the town of Glenmore. The family moved to the town of Chase when Florence was a child.
On June 28, 1941, she married Raymond P. Drella at St. Joseph Church in Chase. The couple farmed in the town of Chase until 1969, at which time they moved to the “big house on the highway.” Florence and her sister, Angie, cooked at the Franciscan Friary in Pulaski for many years. She was an active member of St. Casimir Parish in Krakow, where she was a member and past president of the Altar-Rosary Society. She especially enjoyed sewing, playing cards, gardening, baking and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include one son, Dave (Carol) Drella, Krakow; five daughters, Audrey (Gordon) Aprill, Morgan, Rose (Roger) Wirtz, Krakow, Virge Luepke, Marinette, Terry (Jerry) Denissen, Green Valley, Ruth (Brian) Hoppe, Iola; 14 grandchildren, Georgia (Mark) McCole, Dan (Teri) Drella, Tammy (fiancé Andy Parry) Kroll, Shelly Aprill, Jackie (Matt) Thomas, Amy Wirtz, Curt Wirtz, Kristen (Mike) Gifford, Renee (Trent) Allan, Dave Luepke, Travis (Kylee) Rudnick, Wendy Rudnick, Kati Hoppe, Erinn Hoppe; two stepgrandchildren, Amy Denissen and Kari (Keith) Cunnien, 18 great-grandchildren, Danielle, Noah, Nathan, Lili, Xavier, Brody and Alexa, Calvin, Brennan and Easton, Evan, Logan and Leah, Tanner, Makayla, Emma, Deanne and Isaiah; one brother, Richard (Irene) Maternoski; one sister, Verna Milewski, Seymour; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, on Oct. 26, 2005; an infant daughter; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Leo (Dolores), Albin and Norb (Marie) Maternoski; two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Angie (Harold) Blaser, Margaret (Stanley) Wojcik, and Ray Milewski; and Ray’s brother, Urban (Marcella) Drella.
Friends called Monday at St. Casimir Church, W146 Park St., Krakow. The funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at the church, with the Rev. Bob Konkol, O.F.M., presiding. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery in the spring.
The family would like to thank the caring staff of Good Shepherd/Meadow Wood in Seymour, and Dr. Tangee Sinclair and the third floor staff at St. Mary’s Hospital.
