Fern I. Buchholz, 86, of Bonduel, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014, in Shawano. She was born on May 6, 1927, to the late Richard and Helen (Zastrow) Genke on a farm in the town of Hartland in Shawano County.
On June 5, 1948, Fern was united in marriage to Hubert Buchholz. He preceded her in death in 1998. Fern was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel for 87 years. Fern and Hubert had three sons, Dick, Jerry and Mark. Together Fern and Hubert farmed from 1948 until 1972 and then moved into the village of Bonduel. Then for 28 years, from 1975 to 2003, she worked as a cook at the Bonduel High School cafeteria. She loved watching the Milwaukee Brewers baseball games, and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Dick Buchholz, Green Bay, and Jerry (Peggy) Buchholz, Bonduel; two grandsons, Pastor Nicholas (Samantha) Buchholz and Michael Buchholz; two great-grandchildren, Violet and Mark; sisters-in-law, Crystal Genke, Hortonville, Elaine Buchholz, Bonduel, and Doris Buchholz, Bonduel; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert; a son, Mark; five brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 10, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel (East Green Bay Street) with the Rev. Timothy Shoup and the Rev. Mark Palmer officiating. Family and friends may call on Sunday, March 9, from 4-8 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel and Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be held at St. Paul Church Cemetery.
