Eleanor Olson

Eleanor Olson, 93, formerly of the Township of Larrabee, Waupaca County, passed away on Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at the Greentree Health & Rehabilitation Center, Clintonville. Eleanor was born on Sept. 15, 1920, in Mattoon, Shawano County, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Magdalene (Waideliche) Jahnke. Eleanor was baptized on Sept. 26, 1920, and confirmed on May 13, 1934, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mattoon. Her Bible verse was “What so ever ye do in work or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.” Col. 3:17. Eleanor attended the University of Wisconsin and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. She also attended Concordia University Chicago in River Forest, Ill., becoming certified to teach in Lutheran schools. Later, she completed the work to earn a Masters in Education. She taught 15 years in Gresham, Shawano District 8, five years at the Kindersheim in Addison, Ill., and 20 years at Longfellow Elementary School, Clintonville. Eleanor was a 50-year member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a 54-year member of WHCE and a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church, Clintonville, working in many of its organizations. Eleanor married Arno Olson on April 2, 1945, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mattoon. The couple lived and farmed in the Township of Larrabee for many years. After retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling. Arno preceded his wife in death on Feb. 23, 2007, after 61 years of marriage. Survivors include her sisters, Carolyn Radunz, Wausau, and Dr. Reynotta Holberecht, Suisun, Calif.; her brother, James Jahnke, Pelican Lake; many nieces, nephews and godchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arno; her sisters, Lucille Wirrer and Rosemarie Wimmel. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at St. Martin Lutheran Church, Clintonville, with the Rev. Daniel Burns officiating. Spring interment will be in the St. Martin Lutheran Cemetery, Township of Larrabee, Waupaca County. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
