Donald Joseph Nahwahquaw, 49, of Shawano, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014. Born on Oct. 2, 1964, in Shawano, he was the son of John B. and Phyllis (Boivin) Nahwahquaw.
On Jan. 12, 1985, Don was united in marriage to Michelle LaRock in Keshena. The couple made their home and raised their family in the Shawano area. Don worked as a firefighter for the Department of Natural Resources for several years.
Don is survived by his wife of 29 years, Michelle; his three children, Brandon (Mary), Darren and Phyllis Nahwahquaw, all of Shawano; three grandchildren, Donte, Jasmine, Deja; his parents, John and Phyllis; and four sisters, Dora (Sterling) Bailey, of Keshena, Dena (Kenneth) Perez, of Keshena, Deanna (Robert) James, of Keshena, and Doreen (Robbi) Nahwahquaw, of Lac du Flambeau.
Don was preceded in death by his sister, Christine.
Traditional services officiated by Dave Nahwahquaw Grignon will be held at the Zoar Ceremonial Building from noon Tuesday until the procession leaves for the cemetery on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be at the Nahwahquaw Cemetery on the Menominee Indian Reservation.
