Denver Leroy Schuettpelz, 88, of Suring, passed away peacefully after a short illness, in the presence of family on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Community Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 8, 1925, to the late Helena (Jeske) and Herman Schuettpelz and spent his life in the Suring and Coleman area. Denver attended grade school at St. John’s Elementary and high school at Suring High School, graduating in 1943.
He then served his country in the Army Air Force during World War II, stationed in the Pacific Ocean Marianas Islands as a tail gunner on a B-29 Superfortress. After the war he returned to Wisconsin and married his wife, Donna (Sandberg), on June 8, 1949, and settled in Coleman.
He was employed by the Chadwick Manufacturing Company of Coleman from 1949-1969 and Associated Fixtures of Oconto from 1975-1993. Denver and Donna also ran a small store, Denver’s Market, in Pound from 1971–1992.
Denver enjoyed the outdoors and liked hunting and fishing. He was also a skilled carpenter and self-taught musician.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; three children, Lynnea Kaminski, of Janesville, Michael, of Green Bay, and Lanelle (Doug) Waech, of Larson; 10 grandchildren, Leslie, David and Matthew Kaminski, Bryce Cordier, Joshua Rabas, Heather (Dan) Jaklin, Jeff (Brittany Bodart) Rabas, Arynn (Mark Birr) Rabas, and Sam and Sydney Waech; five great-grandchildren, Haley Kaminski, Takota Hasel, Cole Rabas, Kyla and Easton Jaklin. Denver will also be missed by many nieces and nephews from the Schuettpelz and Sandberg families.
Denver was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Krajcarek; two brothers, Len and Milton Schuettpelz; and one sister, Myrtle Nietzel.
Visitation will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hayes (Suring) on Wednesday, Dec. 18, from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m., with Pastor Nick Buchholz officiating.
