Cornerstone Chiropractic and Wellness was this year’s recipient of Service Business of the Year award from the Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Amy Stuber started the business in Antigo in 2013 and later expanded to Shawano. With both businesses in operation, Stuber was splitting her time between the two. She decided to make a full-time move to Shawano and more fully establish her business there. That was in early 2020, right before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“A couple of months into 2020, the pandemic started,” said Stuber. “We were lucky though, because we were considered essential.”
She said the employees at Cornerstone worked hard to cover shifts and keep the business open and running.
“We conducted business as normal with some heightened safety protocol,” Stuber said.
In the months since then, Stuber and her staff have also worked hard to become ingrained in the Shawano community and get involved with numerous organizations.
“We have our hands in a lot of things,” said Stuber. “We have fundraisers for a lot of community organizations.”
She added that they choose a nonprofit in the area to support on a consistent basis.
“This is our service mindset,” said Stuber. “We want to do our part in serving Shawano.”
Cornerstone has raised over $1,000 in the past year for the Shawano Area Matthew 25 homeless shelter. In addition, they also collected school supplies for the Boys and Girls Club, slippers for senior citizens and non-perishable goods for the Shawano Area Food Pantry and Resource Center.
Ladies Day in the Shawano downtown area and Sundrop Dayz are two events at which Cornerstone offers free massages to continue promoting wellness.
“This is a great way for us give back to the community, while continuing to market and promote ourselves,” said Stuber. “We love being a part of the community.”
Other than promoting themselves, Stuber said that they want to instill health and wellness to the community.
Cornerstone also sponsored the Best Seats in House on Thursdayz at Franklin. That, in turn, gifted the winner a cooler of healthy items.
Another way that Cornerstone has assisted the community is by offering different classes, including yoga.
“These classes are very well-received,” said Stuber.
Cornerstone was also a Crash The Ball sponsor, which helped raised money for first responders during the pandemic.
Outside of events and classes, Cornerstone keeps involved with the public through the schools, police department and social media. Things like treating teachers to cookies, providing law enforcement with coffee and holding challenges and trivia on social media have helped Cornerstone become a pillar in the community.
Cornerstone has continued to develop other services than chiropractic adjustments. Services like acupuncture, lactation consulting, nutritional consulting, rehab sessions and massages have helped Cornerstone continue to support Shawano.
Stuber said that she and her staff are grateful for being chosen for this award.
“This means a lot to the staff and I,” said Stuber. “We strive for the best. It means a lot to get this recognition from others in the community.”
Since its inception, Cornerstone has expanded their client base to 1,100, pushing its profitability up 300%.
Stuber complimented the staff at Cornerstone. Employees continue to push that message of health and wellness outside of work in the community.
“Our employees are super excited about this,” said Stuber. “They have all been working very hard.”
She added that Cornerstone does not have such a big emphasis on health and wellness in order to win an award; rather their aim is to stay connected and support the community. The overall goal of Cornerstone is to restore health over a long period of time, rather than relieve symptoms over a short term.
Stuber acknowledged the staff, the clients and the rest of the community for their support in Cornerstone.
“We could not have done this single-handedly,” said Stuber.
