The Wabeno American Legion Sylvan Post 44 donated to many veteran homes and organizations such as Camp American Legion, King Veterans Home, Iron Mountain Veteran Hospital, Milwaukee VA, Team Rubicon, American Legion Auxiliary (who also donates to many veteran and community organizations), High Ground Veteran’s Camp, Vets for Vets, Vets Roll, Veteran Golf Outing (honoring World War II Veterans), the Community Health Fund Christian Food Pantry, and the Old Glory and Never Forgotten honor flights.
The post also runs many fundraisers such as Trump Lake Fish-o-Ree, Ribfest, Wienerfest, many gunless poultry shoots and the annual rifle raffle.
Post 44 is passionate about its community schools and gave out four $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors, donated to the high school music department, conducted a sixth-grade flag essay contest, held an elementary ice cream social and sent two individuals to Boys’ State. It also held a flag presentation and a Veterans Day ceremony at the Wabeno elementary and high schools.
Post 44 served at many funerals (13 in 2020 and 12 in 2021). They marched in six parades, held a flag disposal ceremony and a Memorial Day ceremony at the Legion Veterans Memorial Park.
Post 44 is thankful for all its supporters and many businesses throughout all the surrounding communities. The post values its veteran and auxiliary members for the countless hours they volunteer to make all this happen. Let us never forget our veterans and always remember to help one another.
