Karen Prueter was recently named the 2022 American Legion Auxiliary Member of the Year for Wabeno Sylvan American Legion Auxiliary Unit 44. Since 2007, Prueter has been very active in the auxiliary and was elected auxiliary president in 2014. She does many things for the auxiliary, selflessly assisting when and where needed.
Karen Prueter and her husband, Don, who is currently sergeant-at-arms for Post 44, moved permanently after retirement in June 2007 from Howards Grove to their home on Maiden Lake, which they owned and vacationed at since 1969.
Prueter is very involved in the community. She is president of AARP Chapter 1191, arranging yearly events and speakers. She is also president of Lakewood Home and Community Education Association and is secretary of the Mission/Evangelism Committee, Forest Larger Presbyterian Church in Lakewood. These organizations require many duties, which include organizing dinners, trips, brat frys and meetings.
The Prueters have been married for 58 years and traveled extensively. They enjoy fishing, golfing and spending time with their son, daughter and grandchildren.
