Canadian driver Ricky Weiss made his trip to Shawano Speedway a successful one by winning the Late Model feature Saturday.
Matt Oreskovich won his second-straight IMCA Modified feature, while Brandon Czarapata won his 13th IMCA Stock Car feature of the year. Clint Forstner won his first IMCA Northern SportMod feature of the year. Jasper Drengler won his 10th Mighty 4s feature.
Shawano Late Models
Weiss wasted little time in jumping out to the lead over Justin Ritchie, Tim Rothe, Jeff Curtin and Doug Blashe in the Late Model feature. Weiss pulled away a little more with the passing of each lap until a caution came out with six laps in the books. Weiss continued to lead on the restart with Rothe moving to second and Nick Anvelink moving to fourth. Ritchie moved back to second on the next lap with Anvelink following to third one lap later. Another caution slowed the action.
Weiss once again jumped out to a comfortable lead on the restart with Anvelink, Ritchie, Ron Berna and Todd Frank following. It stayed that way the rest of the race, with Weiss taking the feature win.
Berna holds a nine-point lead over Anvelink heading into the last night of racing next week.
IMCA Modifieds
By the time the first lap of the IMCA Modified feature was completed, Oreskovich was in the top spot. The caution came out on lap two. Jerry Wilinski, who was in second place in the standings was involved in the accident and was done for the night. Oreskovich continued to lead on the restart with Jason Czarapata right on his rear bumper.
Over the next eight laps Oreskovich and Czarapata jockeyed for the top spot, allowing Brad Rohloff to gain on them. With five laps remaining the top three cars ran bumper to bumper. They encountered lapped traffic with three laps remaining. Czarapata went low, while Rohloff went high. A slower car slowed Czarapata’s progress to allow Rohloff to take the runner-up spot. Neither of them could catch Oreskovich as he took the win over Rohloff, Czarapata, Kevin Feck and Chad Olson.
IMCA Stock Cars
Vern Stedjee led the first six laps of the IMCA Stock Car feature when Mitch Stankowski took over the top spot. Stankowski’s lead lasted only two laps as Brandon Czarapata worked his way through traffic to the top spot. While Czarapata took the lead, Rod Snellenberger, Dan Michonski and Mike Schmidt were working their way through the top five.
Snellenberger moved to second with six laps to go, with Michonski following one lap later. Schmidt got by Stankowski for fourth with three laps remaining. It was all Czarapata, though, as he cruised to another feature win.
Northern SportMods
After a couple of failed attempts to start the Northern SportMod feature, Forstner took the lead when the field finally completed a lap. Point leader Cody Hudson wasted no time making his way to the front, grabbing the second spot on the second lap. Forstner and Hudson battled for the top spot for much of the race.
With three laps to go, Hudson drove underneath Forstner in corner one to take the lead. The two raced side by side for the rest of the race, with Forstner winning the battle by a car length.
Mighty 4s
After leading the first three laps of the Mighty 4s feature Joshua Slewinski gave the lead to Grant Kastning. Kastning led the next six laps when points leader Drengler grabbed the top spot. He led the rest of the way to claim the victory.
The speedway’s final race of the season will be Saturday during the Shawano County Fair. Race action starts at 6 p.m., 30 minutes earlier than usual.
