The Bonduel High School girls basketball team earned a key Central Wisconsin Conference-8 win with a come-from-behind victory over Wittenberg-Birnamwood 49-47 Thursday in Wittenberg.
The Bears (14-4, 9-2 CWC-8) trailed 35-28 after three quarters, but outscored the CWC-8-leading Chargers (15-4, 10-2 CWC-8) 21-12 in the fourth quarter.
Jennifer Dowden led Bonduel with 14 points. Alexa Reinke added 12, and Deanna Zernicke had 11.
Micah Nier scored 14 to lead Wittenberg-Birnamwood. Taylor Bushman had 12, and Mikayla Hartman had nine.
“The girls played well, but we had some defensive lapses in the fourth quarter,” Wittenberg-Birnamwood coach Mike Balliett said. “That allowed Bonduel to complete the come-from-behind victory.”
Bonduel and Amherst (14-2, 8-1 CWC-8), which plays Shiocton on Friday, remain a half-game behind Witt-Birn in the CWC-8 standings. Both of Witt-Birn’s conference losses were to Bonduel.
