Alice Weigle

Alice Pauline McFarland Weigle, 93, of Rosebrook Road, Shawano, completed her transition from this life on Dec. 15, 2013. She passed, with the assistance of Mount Evans Hospice, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, William R. Campbell, with whom she had resided for the past 6½ years. Alice experienced no illnesses, dictated final messages of love and thanks to family and friends, and then simply slipped away. Daughter of Harvey McFarland and Nettie May (Baird) McFarland of Winfield, Kan., she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Lyle Maynard Weigle. She is survived by a daughter, Norma Elaine Weigle Campbell, of Evergreen, Colo., and a son, Dr. Roger Edward Weigle, of Shawano; granddaughters, Adrienne Elise Campbell and Dr. Meredith Marie Campbell, both of Denver, Colo.; and grandson, Dr. Eric Haynes Weigle, of Los Gatos, Calif.; and her last remaining sibling, Catherine Marie McFarland Potter, of Winfield, Kan. Born in Winfield, Kan., on June 7, 1920, she and her husband made their home in Wichita, eventually retiring to Shawano in 1982, where their son maintained a large animal veterinary practice. In May 2007, they began to spend most of their time with their daughter in Greensboro, N.C. After Lyle’s death in 2009, Alice moved with her daughter and son-in-law to Evergreen, Colo., where she enjoyed trips to the museums and galleries of Denver, frequent visits and constant love of her granddaughters, and the services and support of the Evergreen Senior Resource Center, where she was named a Memories in the Making Artist in 2013. Alice was a voracious reader, books being her favorite teachers, and her love for poetry continued as she recited from memory many of her favorites. Education was the foundation of her childhood home and remained so for her own family. Alice reveled in her children’s and grandchildren’s many accomplishments. Although famous for her pie crusts, Alice could upholster a couch, paint a room, make Santa Claus cookies, or grow roses from a broken stick. Her ashes will be distributed in the various places she loved. Foothills Funeral Home, Golden, Colo., assisted the family with the cremation.
