Calon Lee Hawley, 78, of Hatley, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Oct. 2, 2023, at his home.

Calon was born on June 8, 1945, in Wausau, the son of Loren and Jean (Calloway) Hawley.

Calon was a Sparks Nevada High School graduate. Calon served in the Army during the Vietnam War.

On June 30, 1979, Calon was united in marriage to Ann Ebert, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Richford.

Orphie Hamilton

Orphie Hamilton, 81, of Neenah, passed away on Oct. 2, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Feb. 18, 1942, in Cecil to the late Gilbert and Lelia (Oates) Jeske.

On Feb. 16, 1976, she married Loren Hamilton. Orphie was an elementary school teacher, and when she moved to Neenah, became a substitute teacher in the Neenah School District. She was a paper delivery specialist for the Post-Crescent with Loren and the children. Above all, she was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Kerry Krause, 67, Oconto Falls, died early Saturday morning, Sept. 30, 2023, at Meadowbrook at Oconto Falls following a history of health complications. He was born Oct. 22, 1955, in Oconto Falls to Alfred and Joan (Knudson) Krause Jr.

Luella Mae Schuettpelz, 96, of Suring, went to be with her Savior on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023, with family by her side.

Luella was born on Dec. 29, 1926, to the late Christ and Anna (Ziereis) Quandt. She was confirmed on June 15, 1941, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Breed. In her teenage years, Luella worked as a caretaker and as a cook at the school. On June 7, 1947, Luella married Chester Schuettpelz at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Breed.

Jean J. Ruege, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, Sept. 29, 2023, at The Bay of Suring.

She was born on Dec. 23, 1930, in the Town of Green Valley, daughter of the late Harvey and Elsie (Nauman) Hansen. Jean was a graduate of Gillett High School. She was employed at Pulaski Shoe Company until her marriage. On May 23, 1959, she married Melvin Ruege at Bethel Lutheran Church in Green Valley. He preceded her in death on Aug. 17, 1992. The couple farmed in the Town of Gillett until their retirement.

Nancy M. Sleeter, 82, of Suring, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023.

Nancy was born on Dec. 4, 1940, to the late Louis and Erna (Beckendorf) Stix. She graduated from Suring High School with the class of 1959. On Nov. 26, 1960, Nancy married Robert Sleeter at St. Michael Catholic Church in Suring. She belonged to the area homemakers. Nancy farmed for most of her life and greatly enjoyed cutting hay. She also worked at Nu-Line for many years.

Mavis A. Blazek

Mavis A. Blazek, 94, of the Town of Spruce, died Thursday morning, Sept. 28, 2023, at home. She was born Nov. 23, 1928, in Oconto Falls to Frank and Victoria (Christensen) Kamke.

She grew up in the Kelly Brook area where she attended elementary school before graduating from Oconto Falls High School with the class of 1946. Following graduation from high school, she attended Marinette Normal, where she received her teaching certificate. Her first teaching job was at Apple Orchard, a one-room schoolhouse in the Town of Gillett, where she taught all eight grades of about 40 children.
