Wittenberg water rates could go up 60%

MADISON — An Oct. 10 public hearing on a request to double the cost of water for Wittenberg Municipal Water and Sewer Utility customers adds another event to the utility’s unusually active year.

In March, the water utility filed its first comprehensive rate case since 1995 on an order from the Public Service Commission. The utility had reported losses of $141,317 during the two previous years and had little cash on hand, which triggered the PSC to require a utility to file a rate case.

Good deeds become bad entertainment in legal mess

Most of us, growing up, were taught by our parents to take out the trash. When we did it willingly without too much whining, our parents would express their appreciation. To not have done so would turn our homes into prime locations for television shows about hoarders.

Shawano County Supervisor William Switalla did such a deed for the county, but instead of the county expressing appreciation for an act of kindness that he expected no compensation for, it decided to bring felony charges against him and threaten him with prison time.
