Buerman, Sheldon the top boys tennis players after state trip

Boys tennis is a sport for just two area high schools, but there were still some strong seasons put together this spring.

The best season was produced by Shawano’s No. 1 doubles team of George Buerman and Tristan Sheldon, who were named the NEW Media Inc. Players of the Year.

Buerman and Sheldon enjoyed a strong regular season and then went on to qualify for state. At state, the Hawk duo won a match.

Shawano Community High Schools’ George Buerman and Tristan Sheldon posted a 1-1 record in No. 1 doubles play during the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association state individual tournament on June 1-2 at Nielsen Stadium in Madison.

“State was an amazing experience, the tennis atmosphere was amazing and a lot to take in,” said Buerman. “Getting to see the teams we’ve previously played was fun and seeing new players was also exciting.”

Shawano Community High School's George Buerman and Tristan Sheldon won their first No. 1 doubles match at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association state individual tournament on June 1 at Nielsen Stadium in Madison.

Buerman and Sheldon prevailed 6-2, 2-6, 13-11 over Madison LaFollette's Simon Kuhlow and Noah Freeman.

The Shawano pair is slated to next face Marquette University's Jack Eisenbrown and Aidan Ferber in the second round of action, which begins on June 2 at 9 a.m.

Shawano Community High School’s George Buerman and Tristan Sheldon qualified for state as a No. 1 doubles team after a strong week of play at subsectionals and sectionals.

Buerman and Sheldon placed fourth during the Division 1 Notre Dame Sectional on May 25 in Green Bay to qualify for state. The duo advanced to sectionals after winning a match at the Division 1 Notre Dame Subsectional on May 22 in Green Bay.

Shawano Community High School's George Buerman and Tristan Sheldon placed fourth in No. 1 doubles play during the Division 1 Notre Dame Sectional on May 25 in Green Bay to qualify for state.

Buerman and Sheldon opened their day with a 6-2, 1-6, 11-9 win over Kimberly. That win qualified the duo for state.

The individual state tournament will take place from June 1-3 at Nielsen Stadium in Madison. State seeding will take place on May 26.

Pulaski, Shawano boys tennis squads sending No. 1 doubles teams to sectionals

The Pulaski and Shawano boys tennis teams each had their No. 1 doubles teams qualify for sectionals after placing in the top four spots at the Division 1 Rhinelander Subsectional on May 23.

Pulaski's Connor Heezen and Eric Sperduto placed second at No. 1 doubles, while Shawano's George Buerman and Tristan Sheldon placed fourth to advance.

Heezen and Sperduto won 6-3, 6-1 over Green Bay West's Jonathan Allen and Carter Bankes to advance to sectionals.

Buerman and Sheldon earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Wausau West's Nathan Hartman and Andrew Lipowski to advance.
