Pulaski wins softball regional title on walk-off

The Pulaski High School softball team won a Division 1 regional title on May 25 after topping Fox River Classic Conference foe Bay Port 2-1 in Pulaski.

Third-seeded Pulaski won in dramatic fashion, with Haleigh Oleson scoring the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning.

“It feels really good,” said Oleson of the regional title win. “Bay Port is a tough team, and we showed that we can win against a well-rounded team. It was definitely a total team effort as well; everyone played their role perfectly.

Pulaski, Bonduel softball teams win regional semifinals

The Pulaski and Bonduel softball teams both earned regional semifinal playoff wins on May 23, while five other area teams were eliminated after losses.

Third-seeded Pulaski rolled to a 15-0 win over 14th-seeded Green Bay West/East in Pulaski. Top-seeded Bonduel eased to a 17-2 victory over eighth-seeded Crandon in Bonduel.

Green Bay West 0

Shawano rolled to a win over Green Bay West in a Bay Conference Tournament match on May 18 in Shawano.

Trinity Popelka scored four goals in a seven-minute span to power Shawano. Kyla Dove and Caitlyn Moede assisted on a Popelka goal each.

Caitlyn Moede scored twice for Shawano, with Adison Moesch assisting on one of them. Jenna Moede netted a goal off an assist from Caitlyn Moede, while Dove scored an unassisted goal.

Gillett/Suring softball team ousts Menominee Indian from playoffs

The seventh-seeded Gillett/Suring softball team earned a 15-4 victory in five innings over 10th-seeded Menominee Indian in a Division 3 regional quarterfinal playoff game on May 18 in Gillett.

Despite the final score, the contest was a back-and-forth battle in the early going.

Menominee Indian scored once in the first inning, with Natalie Peters singling home Aniya Peters, who had reached earlier on an error.

Bonduel earns share of CWC-East softball title

The Bonduel High School softball team won three games between May 15-16 to earn a share of the Central Wisconsin Conference-East Division title.

The Bears played twice on May 15, topping Manawa 8-5 and rallying past Wittenberg-Birnamwood 5-4 in Bonduel. The Bears then rolled to a 16-4 win over Shiocton on May 16 in Shiocton.

Bonduel had to wait until May 18 to learn if they would have to share the conference title or not. Amherst topped Shiocton to tie Bonduel with an 11-3 CWC-East mark.

Athlete Profile: Chaela Rabas

Lena High School senior Chaela Rabas has been a steady player for the St. Thomas Aquinas Academy/Lena softball co-op during her high school career. Rabas has been the team’s catcher for the past three years.

After having her freshman season wiped out because of the pandemic, Rabas landed on the Marinette & Oconto Conference second team as a sophomore. She made the jump up to the first team as a junior and hopes to accomplish the same feat to cap her senior season.

Area softball teams learn postseason seeds

Area high school softball teams recently learned their postseason seeds and first opponents when the brackets were released by the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association.

Pulaski is the lone area team competing in the Division 1 field and picked up a No. 3 seed after a strong regular season showing.

The Red Raiders will first host No. 14 Green Bay West/East on May 23 at 4:30 p.m. Should Pulaski win, it would either host No. 6 Bay Port or No. 11 Appleton East on May 25.

Oconto Falls and Shawano are both in the Division 2 field.

Bonduel 16

Shiocton 4

Bonduel earned at least a share of the Central Wisconsin Conference-East Division title after cruising past Shiocton on May 16 in Shiocton.

Hailee Thompson homered among her two hits, drove in three runs and scored twice to lead Bonduel at the plate. Abby Stoltenow drove in three runs on three hits, while Hailey Zernicke drove in a pair on two hits and also scored twice.

Tigerton wins CWC-North softball title outright

The Tigerton High School softball team won the Central Wisconsin Conference-North Division title outright after splitting a doubleheader with Bowler/Gresham on May 15 in Tigerton.

Tigerton won game one of the doubleheader 18-3 in four innings to clinch the outright conference crown. The Tigers were then topped 18-13 in five innings in game two.

Tigerton finished 10-2 in conference play, with Bowler/Gresham in second at 8-4. Marion (4-8) was third and Northland Lutheran/Wisconsin Valley Lutheran (2-10) was fourth.

Marion rolled to a Central Wisconsin Conference-North Division win over Gresham on May 15 in Gresham. The Mustangs finished the conference portion of their schedule with a 10-0 record, marking the second straight year the team has gone undefeated in conference play.
