The Wittenberg-Birnamwood softball team defeated Amherst 9-2.

Rory Salvesen was the leading hitter for Chargers, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and four RBIs.

Ella Eichman pitched a complete game, giving up two runs and striking out eight with no walks.

Wausaukee 8, St. Thomas Aquinas/Lena 7

It came down to the seventh inning, as Wausaukee pulled out an 8-7 win over St. Thomas Aquinas/Lena.

Shawano doubles up on West De Pere

Shawano 6, West De Pere 3

Shawano hitters enjoyed a nice day on the field, defeating West De Pere 6-3.

Marissa Tomashek hit 3-for-4 with two triples and a double. Ella Stuber was 1-for-3 and a pair of RBIs.

Abby Bystol hit 2-for-4, and Kimora O’Kimosh was 2-for-3. Braylyn Babino hit 1-for-4.

Kadence Meyers pitched seven innings, gave up six hits and one earned run while walking two and striking out six.

Bonduel 9, Crivitz 2

Bonduel held a 9-0 lead against Crivitz before the host team scored twice in the bottom the seventh to give the Bears a 9-2 win.

Maddy Sokolski and Allison Zernicke each had two hits for the Bears. Jayla Reinke, Sokolski and Hailey Zernicke each a double, while Sokolski also had a triple. Joselyn Bohm, Lila Pleshek, Reinke, Sokolski (four), Hailey Zernicke and Allison Zernicke all had RBIs.

Tatum Sporisky was the winning pitcher.

Bonduel 9, Weyauwega-Fremont 5

Bonduel kept chipping away at Weyauwega-Fremont to emerge with a 9-5 CWC-East win.

The Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Both team scored twice in the second, and Weyauwega-Fremont added two in the third to tie the game at 4-4.

Bonduel had two runs cross the plate in the fourth inning and then one more in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Hailey Zernicke hit 3-for-4, Hailee Thompson and Maddy Sokolski each went 2-for-4, and Lila Pleshek hit 2-for-5.

Bonduel lost to Iola-Scandinavia 1-0 in nine innings.

Bonduel (4-2, 2-1) had six hits.

Iola’s Julia Munoz had nine strikeouts, while Bonduel’s Hailey Zernicke pitched a complete game with six strikeouts.

Niagara 5, Gillett/Suring 2

Gillett/Suring dropped to 0-2 in the M&O standings after losing 5-2 to Niagara.

Three Lakes/Phelps 14, St. Thomas Aquinas Academy/Lena 4

Bonduel wins in 9 innings

Bonduel won 3-2 in nine innings against Amherst at Cedar Park in Bonduel on April 8.

Lila Pleshek had a single to drive in Gracyn Wudtke in the bottom of the ninth for Bonduel. Pleshek also had a double to help the cause. Hailey Zernicke earned the save with four strikeouts.

Amherst led 1-0 after the first inning only to see Bonduel tie the game in the third. The visitors went up 2-1 in the fifth, but once again, Bonduel tied it — this time in the seventh.

Amherst had three singles in the game.

Oconto Falls was dominated by Crivitz and lost 13-3 in what was the Panthers’ season opener and Marinette & Oconto Conference opener.

Oconto Falls opened its 2024 season with a 3-1 non-conference win on the road against Two Rivers.

Bonduel 25, Menominee Indian 3

Three runs by the Eagles in the top of the first inning didn’t hold up against a second-inning barrage from Bonduel.

Hawks, Chargers win conference openers

Bonduel went 1-1 over the weekend, competing in a tournament inside the Superior Dome in Marquette, Michigan.

The Bears opened with an 8-7 loss to Hancock (Michigan) on March 29. The team turned things around March 30, beating Menominee (Michigan) 15-7.

Result for a March 30 game against Hurley were not available.

In the same tournament, Wittenberg-Birnamwood went 1-1-1.

The Chargers began their play March 29 with a 7-4 victory over Hancock.

Hawks' softball team goes 2-1 at Hodag tournament

Shawano’s girls softball team opened the 2024 season with a 7-4 win over Thorp on March 22 at the Danny Mac Softball Classic at the Hodag Dome in Rhinelander.

The Hawks would split their two games March 23 to end up 2-1 on the weekend.

In their first game on March 23, Shawano lost 12-10 to Stratford. The Hawks bounced back in their final game, shutting out Clintonville 12-0.

The event included three days of competition featuring 24 teams split into three brackets of eight teams each.

Wynos signs to play softball in Minnesota

Danika Wynos is turning from an Eagle into a Blue Knight after she signed her letter of intent Dec. 15 to play softball for Dakota County Technical College in Rosemount, Minnesota.

The Menominee Indian High School senior made the announcement official after listening to congratulatory remarks from the school’s athletic director and a former coach.
