Ad hoc committee members tour courthouse

A tour of the Shawano County Courthouse, including some behind-the-scenes areas, concluded the first meeting of the county’s ad hoc building committee Aug. 28.

The committee of county supervisors, department employees and county residents were introduced to their charge — deciding what to do about the status of county buildings, particularly the courthouse, library, sheriff’s department and jail.

Summer hours are in effect at the Shawano County Courthouse.

Hours of operation are now 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7-11 a.m. Friday.

Verify office hours for each department prior to arrival. Contact information for each department can be found under “Departments” at the top of the county’s website at www.co.shawano.wi.us.

Master plan urged for county buildings

Shawano County Administrative Coordinator Jim Davel and Shawano County Board Chairman Tom Kautza are again urging county supervisors to create a master plan to guide maintenance and new construction for county buildings.

“The building (courthouse) is not what we need today,” Davel said at the May 22 county board meeting. “Our court system has changed dramatically. We’ve got to do better. These are some tough decisions. We don’t know the cost of what this could look like, because we haven’t formulated our plan yet.”

Water leak above treasurer’s office fixed

It’s more than simple maintenance issues being reported at the Shawano County Courthouse.

The latest problem was a leak above the county treasurer’s office.
