Menominee Indian outlasted Weyauwega-Fremont in a Central Wisconsin Conference-East Division double overtime thriller on Jan. 10 in Weyauwega.

Kaysha Wilber knocked down four of Menominee Indian's 15 3-pointers in the contest.

Mariah Fish made five triples and scored 24 points, while Ayanna Smith had four 3-point makes and 17 points.

Ashlee Corn chipped in six points for the Eagles.

Green Bay West 41

Shawano rolled to a Bay Conference win over Green Bay West on Jan. 9 in Green Bay.

Logan Sipple powered Shawano with 26 points. He made nine field goals and six free throws.

Michael Metcalf-Grassman added 13 points for the Hawks, while Brandon Reed had 12.

WRESTLING

Herm leads Shawano at invitational

Carsen Herm placed first to lead Shawano to a fifth-place finish as a team at the 66th Fred Lehrke Invitational on Jan. 7 in Schofield.

Herm earned that finish in the 152-pound weight class with a 5-0 record. He won each match by pin.

Shawano's Caden Young placed second at 170 pounds with a 4-1 mark. Andrew Kakwitch (145), Conner Chelberg (182) and Wahkeenyah Waukau (220) all took fourth.

Suring girls basketball team comes up short against Coleman

The Suring High School girls basketball team appeared poised to hand Coleman its first Marinette & Oconto Conference loss of the season, but was outscored 6-0 in the final two minutes of a 61-54 loss on Jan. 5 in Suring.

After battling back and forth for most of the game, Coleman converted a couple shots to go ahead 55-48 with about 3½ minutes to play.

Suring clawed back to within one point after free throws from Bunny Cramer, Christine Sleeter and Emma Kristof with still 2:10 to play.

Shawano picked up a low-scoring win over Bay Conference foe Seymour on Jan. 5 in Seymour. The Hawks led 19-9 by halftime.

Leah Nordin scored 18 points for Shawano, while Ella Stuber added seven points.

Tigerton picked up a low-scoring win over Wisconsin Valley Lutheran in a Central Wisconsin Conference-North Division clash on Jan. 3 in Mosinee.

Loghan Wanta and Asher Michaelis each scored 12 points for Tigerton.

Ryder Graham pulled down 10 rebounds for the Tigers, while Michaelis had seven. Colby Wanta dished out three assists and also had four steals.

Athlete Profile: Allison Linke

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School girls basketball team is enjoying a strong winter season so far, winning nine of its first 10 games and sitting in the thick of the conference title hunt. Senior Allison Linke has helped the Chargers to that strong start, doing a bit of everything for the team while also providing leadership.

Through 10 games, Linke was averaging 4.3 points per contest. She was third on the team in 3-point makes.

Linke pulls down over three rebounds a game while also averaging 1.4 assists and 1.8 steals a contest.

Gresham girls, Bowler boys 2nd at basketball tournament

The Gresham girls and Bowler boys basketball teams each earned second-place finishes at the Gresham Holiday Tournament that took place Dec. 29-30 in Gresham.

The Gresham girls opened up tournament play with a 69-14 win over St. Thomas Aquinas Academy on Dec. 29 before falling 49-47 to Elkhart Lake in the title game on Dec. 30.

The Bowler boys team started the tournament with an 89-19 win over Gresham and then lost 53-52 to Oneida Nation in the title matchup on Dec. 30.

Gresham dropped a tight contest to Elkhart Lake in the Gresham Holiday Tournament title game on Dec. 30 in Gresham.

Maddie Haffner hit three 3-pointers and led Gresham with 15 points.

Koda Hill tallied 11 points for the Wildcats, while Josie Cerveny had 10. Janay Pecore-Kirkland chipped in eight points for the hosts.

Gresham 19

Bowler eased past Gresham during a Gresham Holiday Tournament game on Dec. 29 in Gresham. All nine Bowler players scored in the contest.

Emmitt Kietlinski led Bowler with 21 points, while Marcus Malone had 19. Beau Brunner contributed 14 points.

Damian Terrio chipped in 12 points for the Panthers, while Tristan Thiex had 11. Danian Schultz added six points.

Ruben Arce scored six points to lead Gresham offensively.
