Genskow and Miller prove to be too much for White Lake/Elcho

Coming off a loss to open their 2023 8-player season, Marion/Tigerton was back on the field Friday for a matchup against White/Lake Elcho. As expected, this was another high-scoring affair, but one that Marion/Tigerton controlled from the second quarter on.

All it took was a massive second quarter that saw Marion/Tigerton score 22 of their 48 points and an offense that put up 36 points in the first half. That was more than enough to pull a victory as Marion/Tigerton improves to 1-1 on the season with their 48-28 victory on Sept. 1.

Shawano lands in middle of the pack at the Heart of the Valley meet

The Shawano Hawks golf team was back on the links Sept. 1 as they participated in the annual Heart of the Valley Metro meet at High Cliff Golf Course in Sherwood. With the initial day of this event getting rained out in August, Mother Nature cooperated on Friday as it was an absolutely perfect day for golf.

Shawano has perfect record at Friendship Tournament

Shawano went a perfect 9-0 at the Friendship Tournament on Aug. 25-26 in Wisconsin Dells.

The Hawks opened the tournament up with a 2-1 win over Royall. After that, they didn’t lose another game, going 2-0 against all other opponents – Cedarburg, Fall River, Rio, Peshtigo, Sheboygan North, Lake Mills, Royall and Cedarburg.

In that opening match, Shawano won the first game 25-23, lost the second 22-25 and won the third 15-12.

Shawano tennis has mixed results at Preble

Members of the Shawano girls tennis team defeated Green Bay Preble and Stevens Point on Aug. 24-25 at the Green Bay Preble Invite. The team also dropped sets to Manitowoc Lincoln, Notre Dame Academy and Oshkosh West.

The Hawks opened play Aug. 24 with a 5-2 win over Preble.

All singles players won in two sets each – Adison Moesch at the No. 1 position, Ireland Setterman at No. 2, Rachael Carroll at No. 3 and Hadley Rettke at No. 4.

Bonduel volleyball on winning track early

Bonduel volleyball coach Abby Reinke has her team on the winning track in the opening stages of the 2023 season.

At the Oconto Invite on Aug. 22, the Bears went 4-0 with victories over Mishicot, Valders, Oconto and Menominee Indian.

Bonduel went 2-0 against Mishicot, 25-21 and 25-16.

Hailee Thompson had 16 assists, three aces and eight digs. Audrey Weier had eight kills and nine digs. Josie Anvelink had four kills and seven digs.

It was another 2-0 win over Valders, 25-14 and 25-18.

Shawano runners take third at Terror Invite

Shawano’s boys and girls cross country teams each finished in third place while Pulaski boys took eighth at the Appleton West Terror Invite on Aug. 25.

Shawano’s Ethan Onesti finished second overall with a time of 16:15.6, just in front of fourth-place teammate Will Chelberg and his time of 16:35.6. Trevor Schwartz was 26th at 18:13.4, Andon Chelberg placed 30th in 18:14.5 and Josiah Kuehl’s time of 18:24.8 placed him 37th.

Hortonville shuts out Pulaski to open 2023 soccer season

The Pulaski Red Raiders soccer team opened their season by hitting the road to take on the Hortonville Polar Bears on Aug. 22.

Despite a great effort across the board, offense was at a premium in this game. The Polar Bears found a way to score just one goal and made that hold up as Pulaski lost 1-0.

Eggert paces Shawano at Bay Conference meets

Gabi Krause and Kailea Van Der Linden led the Bonduel golf teams with a score of 44, good enough for second place, at the Oconto Scramble on Aug. 25. The duo teamed up for a 44, three strokes off the winning pace.

Raina Dworniczak and Paige Wolf connected for a 47, while Colette DeVeau and Anna Beaumier had a 48.

Madison Sikora and Allison Johnson of Oconto with a 46.

Luxemburg-Casco and Sturgeon Bay also participated.

Shawano posts unbeaten soccer week

The 2023 soccer season couldn’t have gotten off to a much better start for the Shawano Hawks as they posted an unbeaten week in their two games. What started with a low scoring draw with Ashwaubenon on Aug. 23 culminated with a great battle on the road against Mosinee on Aug. 26.

Chargers, Panthers win big in football

Coleman 30, Bonduel 12

When it comes to a non-conference football schedule, the Bonduel Bears may have one of the toughest schedules in the area. Not only did Bonduel face off with a team that landed in Level 4 last year in week one, but Coleman is no slouch either as they made Level 3 playoffs last season. The end result was a loss by the Bears on Aug. 24 as they fell to 0-2 on the season.
