Pulaski tennis downs De Pere, Preble

The Pulaski girls tennis team defeated the De Pere Redbirds by a 4-3 score on Sept. 12.

Pulaski’s Ruth Krause defeated De Pere’s Sophie Sonnenburg by scores of 6-2 and 6-2. Pulaski’s Isabella Skalecki was defeated by De Pere’s Sophia Titus by scores of 6-1, 3-6 and 8-10. Pulaski’s Alya Groteluschen also went to three sets, but she was defeated by De Pere’s Avanti Bhosekar by scores of 6-4, 4-6 and 6-10. Pulaski’s Addison Heezan was the only one to win her singles match in three sets though, defeating De Pere’s Samantha Hettman by scores of 6-1, 1-6 and 10-5.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood takes first place at Merrill Invite

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood Chargers went 3-2 in its five game match series at the Merrill Invite on Sept. 9. The Chargers took down Tomahawk (25-15, 25-19), Stanley-Boyd (25-16, 27-25) and Tomahawk again (25-23, 25-23).

The team dropped two matches to Athens (17-25, 11-25) and Chippewa Falls (12-25, 17-25).

With its performance, Wittenberg-Birnamwood took home first place in the silver bracket.

Shawano girls golf team takes first at Oconto Falls

The Shawano Hawks finished first at the Oconto Falls girls golf invite on Sept. 11. Sophia Eggert led the Hawks as she medaled with a score of 80 during the match. In total, Shawano won with a score of 385, just four points below Seymour’s 389.

Local runners lead the way at area meets

Shawano and Oconto Falls dominated the Bonduel Invitational on Sept. 12, with runners from the two schools grabbing six of the top 10 positions.

Ethan Onesti had the fastest time of 17:34.8 to lead the Hawks to a first-place finish. He was joined by teammates Will Chelberg in fourth place (19:09.9), Andon Chelberg in sixth (19:25.2) and Josiah Kuehl in seventh (19.25.3). Quinn Olson placed 13th for Shawano.

Hawks volleyball team enjoys successful season

Shawano’s volleyball team defeated Green Bay East 3-0 on Sept. 14, extending their winning streak to eight and improving their overall record to 21-1.

In the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association coaches’ poll on Sept. 12, the Hawks were ranked No. 10 in Division 2.

Pulaski girls golf team claims fourth at FRCC Conference Meet

Looking to put on a strong showing, the Pulaski Red Raiders had a great day on the course Sept. 8 as they finished off their day with a fourth-place finish and a team score of 187, one stroke ahead of De Pere.

What stood out the most was how close a lot of these teams were as the Red Raiders were just three shots out of third place and four strokes away from second. Bay Port has been the class of the conference all season long, and that continued with their 17-stroke win. Their score of 166 took home first place from the meet held at Seymour’s Crystal Springs Golf Course.

Pulaski, Shawano have tough time on tennis courts

The Pulaski Red Raiders tennis team lost to the Ashwaubenon Jaguars by a score of 4-3 on Sept. 5.

In singles, Ashwaubenon’s Jordan Domnick defeated Pulaski’s Ruth Krause, 2-6, 6-2 and 10-8. Ashwaubenon’s Amrusha Prathigudupu and Khali Wickert beat Pulaski’s Isabella Skalecki and Addison Heezen by scores of 6-3, 6-2 and 6-0 and 6-3, respectively. The lone victory for Pulaski in singles came from Alya Groteluschen over Sarah Beaudo by scores of 6-3 and 6-4.

Shawano cross-country runners lead at Manawa

Shawano’s Will Chelberg finished in first place for the boys and three other boys and six girls grabbed top 10 finishes at the Manawa/Symco Invitational in Symco, hosted by Manawa High School, on Sept. 5.

Chelberg, a senior, finished in a time of 17:08.2. Fellow seniors and teammates Ethan Onesti placed second in 17:29.3 and Andon Chelberg was seventh in 19:07.6. Freshman Josiah Kuehl placed 10th in 19:28.3, and junior Trevor Schwartz was 13th in 19:59.2.

Bowler/Gresham split pair to earn first soccer win

To say the Bowler/Gresham Bears have gotten off to a rough start would be an understatement as they entered last week in search of their first win of the boys soccer season.

A win was not to be had Sept. 5 as they faced the challenge of playing Columbus Catholic and fell 8-0 in that match.

Oconto Falls volleyball team drops conference opener

The Oconto Falls volleyball team dropped its conference opener in a five-set match against Waupaca on Aug. 31. Waupaca took down the Panthers by scores of 20-25, 25-15, 15-25, 25-22 and 18-16.

Morgan Moynihan led the Panthers with 24 assists, 12 digs and three aces, while Izzy Otto added another 12 assists and 10 digs. Kyndra Staidl also had 35 digs and three aces.
