Second fatal crash occurs at scene of first one

While deputies, first responders and passersby were tending to the driver of a fatal crash on U.S. 41-141 on March 19, a second crash occurred at the scene, killing another driver.

According to a news release from Oconto County Sheriff Todd Skarban, the emergency dispatch center received a call at 10:08 a.m. about the one-vehicle crash just north of Brown Road in the Town of Little Suamico.

Gillett crash victim identified

The victim of a fatal traffic crash Nov. 25 has been identified as Connor Johnson, 22, of Gillett.

The Oconto County Sheriff’s Office said Johnson’s pickup truck was traveling east on Highway 22 when it entered the south ditch and overturned near Old U Road in the Town of Gillett about 3:15 a.m. Johnson was ejected and died at the scene from his injuries.

A memorial service was held Dec. 2.

Couple injured in motorcycle crash

A Luxemburg area couple was seriously injured Sept. 30 when their motorcycle collided with a car in the Town of Chase.

According to the Oconto County Sheriff’s Department traffic report, both vehicles were driving east on County Road S when the car slowed to turn left onto Yurek Road and was rear-ended by the motorcycle around 4:12 p.m.

David Lawrence Vanness, 57, and Laurie Ann Vanness, 57, were hospitalized with their injuries. Laurie Vanness was flown to St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay by a rescue helicopter.

2 semis collide on Highway 47; 1 person hurt

State Highway 47 was closed for about seven hours Sept. 21 after law enforcement dealt with the aftermath of two semis colliding.

At about 7:50 a.m., Shawano County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash just north of County Road S. The initial report indicated this crash involved two semitrailers with road blockage and injuries. Upon arriving on scene, both semis were disabled in the lane of travel and the entirety of Highway 47 in that area was closed. Detours were set up to reroute traffic, according to a sheriff’s department press release.

Shawano-area man dies in single-vehicle crash

A Shawano-area man died Aug. 4 after his vehicle crashed in the Town of Herman.

Around 8:17 p.m., the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Cherry Road, east of Lower Lake Road. The vehicle had come to rest in a yard of a residence.

Upon arrival, a 41-year-old man from the Shawano area was found dead. Officials have not released his name. The investigation of this crash showed he was the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle.

Lee Inman identified as victim in Bonduel fatal crash

Lee Inman was killed in the one-vehicle rollover on Valley Road in the Town of Hartland on Jan. 1, according to the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department on Monday.

The 56-year-old Bonduel man, pronounced dead at the scene, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Spencer Q. Inman, 19, listed at the same address in Bonduel. The younger Inman was cited for failure to keep a vehicle under control Jan. 4, according to the Wisconsin Circuit Court Access web site.

Man killed in motorcycle crash

A motorcyclist was killed in a traffic crash Saturday after striking a stopped vehicle and being thrown from his motorcycle, after which he was struck by another passing vehicle.

Authorities say a vehicle was stopped in the southbound lane of state Highway 47 and Landstand Road in the Township of Lessor and was attempting to turn east on Landstand Road.

A motorcycle traveling southbound on Highway 47 struck the stopped vehicle.

The male motorcycle rider was thrown from the motorcycle and landed in the northbound lane.

Man dies, girl injured, in Oconto County motorcycle crash

UPDATE: Oconto County officials on Thursday identified the victim of the crash as Troy R. Hruska. The girl sustained what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Names released in fatal Airport Road crash

SHAWANO — Shawano police have released the names of two people killed and one critically injured Wednesday morning in a crash on Airport Road.

Orville O. Jacobs, 76, and his passenger, Judith A. Jacobs, 73, both of Shawano, were pronounced dead at the scene of the two-vehicle crash that occurred on Airport Road at Richmond Street shortly after 10 a.m.

The driver of the other vehicle, Edith M. Huettl, 76, of Wabeno, remains in a Fox Valley hospital, police said Thursday afternoon.

Crash closes Airport Road - UPDATE

SHAWANO —Shawano police report there were two fatalities resulting from a two-vehicle crash shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday morning that closed down Airport Road.

A third person was reported to be in critical condition.

The crash is being investigated by the state Department of Transportation, but initial indications are that an eastbound pickup truck on Richmond Street missed a stop sign at Airport Road and struck a northbound vehicle.
