Franti led D5 in 3-point shooting

Gillett High School senior Aydin Franti was the No. 1 3-point shooter in the Division 5 this season, which earned him a spot in the 2024 WIAA Boys 3-Point Challenge on March 16 at the Kohl Center in Madison.

At the event, he sunk 11 of 25 in the first round and did not advance to the semifinals.

During the season, Franti completed 45 of 94 3-point attempts for a 47.9% success rate. Coming in at No. 2 was Heath Poppy of Shullsburg, who completed 69 of 146 for 47.3%.

Bonduel boys basketball team defeated by Marathon in sectional final

Bonduel’s boys basketball team ended their season at 26-2 after a 68-61 loss to Marathon in the sectional finals March 9.

Marathon held a slim 29-24 lead at the intermission and added to their final margin of victory with a 39-37 second half.

Noah Weier led the Bears with 20 points, followed by Race Anvelink’s 13 points and Quinn Wessenberg’s 10 points. Carter Moesch and Colin Margelofsky each contributed four points, while Cade Johnson added two.

Bonduel

Three players scored in double digits and six others also scored as Bonduel pounded Crivitz 82-40 in the regional finals.

Noah Weier led the Bears with 26 points, with Race Anvelink adding 14 and Ryan Westrich getting another dozen. For Weier, 24 of his points came in the first half.

Bonduel held a comfortable 52-20 lead at the half and went on to win the second half 30-20 for the lopsided win.

After losing its first game of the season, Bonduel has won 25 straight.

Bowler’s regular season came to an end with a 72-26 non-conference loss to Florence.

Thursday, Feb. 22

Bonduel beats Menominee Indian

Eleven players scored for Bonduel, which finished the regular season at 14-0 in the Central Wisconsin East Conference and 23-1 overall after its 91-58 victory over Menominee Indian.

The Eagles ended the year at 2-12 in conference action and 3-20 overall.

Bonduel

The Bears soared into triple digits with six players scoring in double digits in a 103-61 victory over Coleman in non-conference action.

Bonduel led 46-34 at the break and then poured it on in the second half with a 57-27 score.

Panthers boys basketball team hangs tough but falls to Wrightstown

When it comes to the Oconto Falls Panthers (6-16, 2-14), things haven’t always been pretty, but they have at least been competitive in a lot of games.

That rang true against the Wrightstown Tigers (11-11, 9-7) on Feb. 13 as the Tigers entered their game riding a two-game conference winning streak. Not the same Tigers team of the past, the Panthers held their own most of the night and were within 49-44 with fewer than five minutes to go. That was until a series of turnovers led to an 11-1 Tigers run to put the game out of reach as the Panthers lost 60-50.

Tigerton boys basketball team goes 4-for-4 in action last week

Sam Anheuser and James Brady each scored 14 points to help lead Tigerton over Lena 53-38 in non-conference action Feb. 10. Anheuser had four 3-pointers.

Brady pulled down 11 rebounds, and Anheuser had nine. Maverick Maas had a pair of assists, and Anheuser also led the team with six steals.

Tigerton led 33-23 at halftime and added another five points to their margin of victory with a 20-15 second half.

Lena was led by Caleb Schlosser’s 15 points and Mason Belongia’s 13. Mason Spice score three, Tyler Shallow had two, and Gonzolo del Val Arroyo had one.

Schultz’ 24 points not enough as Appleton East takes down Pulaski

It’s never easy to go on the road and win in high school basketball, and the Pulaski Red Raiders (10-9) found that out the hard way Feb. 3.

Facing off against Appleton East (4-13) in a non-conference tilt, it was a story of two players going head to head in an epic player vs. player matchup.
