Shawano Memorial Day parade, ceremony announced

Members of the Shawano Allied Vets Council will hold a parade and program on Memorial Day.

The parade will step off at 9:15 a.m. from Huckleberry Harbor and march along Fifth Street to Woodlawn Cemetery.

The program will begin at 10 a.m. at the cemetery.

Dennis Bohm will be the master of ceremonies, and the Rev. Andrew Zobel, senior pastor at St. James Lutheran Church, will offer the invocation.

Scott Fuqua, first vice commander of American Legion Post 117, will offer the Pledge of Allegiance, with the national anthem performed by Rebecca Van Buren.

St. James Lutheran School seventh graders are the main speakers.

Shawano school bands will provide a musical presentation.

Zachary Zuehsdorf, Shawano Count veterans service officer, will place the memorial wreath. Members of AMVETS Post 10 will conduct a rifle volley, and Brent Buettner and company will play taps.

The ceremony will conclude with another musical selection by Van Buren, the benediction from Zobel and closing remarks by Bohm.

In case of rain, the program will be held inside the Shawano Ambulance Center.

The Allied Vets Council is made up of VFW Post 2723, AMVETS Post 10, VVA Chapter 206 and American Legion Post 117.
