While last week was the unofficial start to summer, the weather took a week to catch up. Nick Anvelink, Jeremy Christians, Jayden Schmidt, Marcus Yarie and Lucas Hacker all beat the heat and their respective fields to find victory lane at Shawano Speedway on June 5.

In the Late Model division, Troy Springborn looked to get his season on track as he jumped to a large lead in the opening laps of the feature event. Meanwhile, Joel Bennett and Chris Engels were giving chase.

Mechanical issues cut Engel’s night short as Bennett quickly found Anvelink hounding him for second. Anvelink got by Bennett and began to eat into the nearly two-second advantage Springborn had built.

On lap 10, Anvelink made a great run to grab the lead, however, caution reset the field to the previous lap. Springborn looked like he would be able use his second chance and began to distance himself from Anvelink.

Anvelink’s car again came to life a couple laps later and he went to the outside to take the lead. Anvelink cruised to another feature win with Springborn settling for second and Bennett third.

The IMCA Stock Cars were due for a race filled with a little less action up front and Christians decided he would be the one to steal the spotlight. Christians powered to the front early and never looked back as he picked up another win.

Travis Van Straten was able to wrestle to a runner-up spot after getting by Chucky Forstner and Kyle Frederick. Forstner took the third spot with Frederick fourth. Dan Michonski overcame mechanical issues in his heat race to take fifth.

The IMCA Modifieds saw Yarie power past Marcus Hoeppner and Kevin Feck in the early laps to grab the top spot.

Behind Yarie, Wyatt Block was trying to get into the battle for his second straight feature win as he got by Feck for the runner-up spot as Hoeppner slipped to fourth. Jordan Bartz charged to the fifth spot but would run out of laps in her quest for more.

The IMCA Sport Mods saw Teagan Wudstrack jump out early as Jeffery Teske and Matthew Radtke tried to best each other for second.

As Teske and Radtke were trying to settle things, Schmidt joined the battle and grabbed the second spot from the two. Schmidt then began to track the leader.

A few laps later, Schmidt pounced and took the lead from Wudstrack. Schmidt wouldn’t relinquish the lead, picking up another win. Teske grabbed second and Tyler Sobiesczyk cut through the field to third with Radtke fourth. Wudstrack settled for fifth.

The Mighty 4’s closed the night with Hacker leading green to checkers to pick up the win.

Brad Wedde, who always seems to find the front, finished third with Tanner Westphal taking the runner-up spot from him late in the race. Kyle Walters finished fourth with a pack of four cars within a half second of him at the line.
