One local community is bringing back a staple block party in 2021.

Wittenberg Community Days will take place in the village of Wittenberg on June 12-13. Wittenberg Community Days will encompass numerous events including, fireworks on Saturday night, live music from Green Bay cover band Johnny Wad, vendors, crafts, business booths, a strawberry festival, a parade and children’s games among other events.

“This is an event for the community to get people together,” said Wittenberg Chamber of Commerce president Sally Jo Stephens.

The activities are hosted by the chamber, the Lions Club, the American Legion, Walls of Wittenberg and Homme Home for the Aging. The majority of events will take place at Washington Park, with the parade winding on Sunday through South Webb Street and the WOWSPACE giving tours of the murals throughout the village. WOWSPACE will also host an Emerging Talents Art Show, which will feature art from Wittenberg-Birnamwood School District students.

Community Days was not held last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Wittenberg Community Days is a major event that brings many visitors together every year, and although people are receiving vaccinations and the pandemic has slowed down, Stephens admits she is not certain about this year’s turnout.

“Honestly, I am unsure of what the attendance will be this year,” said Stephens. “It is a big expense, so I do hope that people show up.”

The events kick off at noon Saturday with concessions being provided the American Legion and cheese curds provided by the Lions Club. Tours of murals around Wittenberg begin at 2 p.m. with family-friendly activities and bouncy houses available. Live music is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. with The After Dark Experience. Johnny Wad will then play at 7 p.m. Finally, a fireworks show is set to take place at dusk.

Sunday will feature the Community Days parade at noon. After the parade, concessions and activities will remain similar to Saturday, with The Nightcrawlers performing live music from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Stephens said that a villagewide event like this is beneficial to the community and its members.

“This is a great way for businesses to support the community,” said Stephens. “With the polka music and the family-friendly activities, this is an event for all ages.”

Stephens said that COVID-19 protocols will not be enforced, but visitors have the option to wear a mask and socially distance as they see appropriate.
