Witt-Birn girls track and field team win CWC-Large title

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School girls track and field team earned six first-place individual finishes during the Central Wisconsin Conference-Large Division Meet to take first as a team.

The girls team totaled 135 points, comfortably ahead of Weyauwega-Fremont (101). The Bonduel girls tied for fourth place with 88 points, while Menominee Indian came in ninth with 22 points.

On the boys side, Bonduel came in sixth with 58.5 points. Witt-Birn (50) claimed ninth and Menominee Indian (2) was 10th. Manawa (128) edged Iola-Scandinavia (120) for the team title.

Reese Rogowski had a huge day to lead the Witt-Birn girls, placing first in four individual events.

She turned in the best leap in the long jump (17 feet) and had the top time in the 100-meter dash (12.55 seconds). She claimed first in the 200 (26.08) and 400 (1:02.92) to cap an impressive day.

Emma Herb placed first in the discus (106-9), while Jalynn Horacek took first in the triple jump (32-10.75) for the team's other top finishes.

Along with the six top finishes, the Witt-Birn girls had three second-place finishes.

Bonduel's 4x800 relay team of Kendra Troxel, Breanna Schnell, Ashlyn Kurey and Kara Troxel took first in 10:39.09 for the only top finish on the girls side.

Bonduel's Gavin Vance won the boys 200 in 23.24. Kaden Bergsbaken, Ayden Dunst, Jack Johnson and Karter Schroeder teamed up for a first-place finish in the 4x400 relay (3:57.08).

Simon Schairer had the Witt-Birn boys only first-place finish, claiming the 400 with a time of 54.10.

Emma Komanekin placed second in the 1,600 (5:51.78) for the Menominee Indian girls team's best finish. Asenex Turney was eighth in the shot put (38-10.25) and discus (100-2) for the top finishes on the boys team.
