Witt-Birn girls edge Manawa at home track and field invite

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School girls track and field teams scored 166 points to win the Wittenberg Lions Invite on May 9 in Wittenberg.

The Chargers narrowly edged Manawa, which scored 160 points. The Gresham/Bowler girls placed fourth with 68 points, while Tigerton was seventh with 13 points and Marion finished eighth with five points.

On the boys side, Manawa won with 174 points, comfortably ahead of Newman Catholic's 141 points for second. Witt-Birn was third with 124 points, while Gresham/Bowler took fourth with 79 points.

Reese Rogowski led the Witt-Birn girls with four top finishes. She won the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 6½ inches and the 100-meter dash in 12.79 seconds. Rogowski also was first in the 200 (25.65) and 400 (59.64).

Jalynn Horacek won the 100 hurdles (17.69) and also teamed up with Kit Stewart, Allison Linke and Faith Resch for first in the 4x100 relay (55.41). Linke won the 300 hurdles in 52.65 seconds.

Witt-Birn's Simon Schairer won the 400 in 54.14 to lead the boys team. He joined Alex Centeno, Connor Groshek and Craig Wendel on the first-place finishing 4x400 relay (3:53.17).

Jacob Tomlinson won the shot put (42-10½) for the Witt-Birn boys.

Emmitt Kietlinski had the best finishes for the Gresham/Bowler co-op. He won the high jump (6-5), long jump (19-2) and triple jump (41-9¼).

Elizabeth Robbins had the Tigerton girls top finish, placing fourth in the 200 (28.9).

Marion's 4x100 girls relay team of Peytra Bailey, Lily Wudstrack, Hailey Meister and Bridget Much took fifth in 1:08.41 for the team's top finish.
