W-B swimmer sets pool, team record in backstroke
Wittenberg-Birnamwood freshman swimmer Kelsie Davis set a new pool and team record in the 100-yard backstroke when the Chargers hosted New London on Oct. 5.
Her time of 1:01.62 was more than 14 seconds faster than the No. 2 swimmer.
The pool record had stood since 2005, and the team record since the year before that.
Davis also won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:05.9.
In the 200-yard medley relay, it was Davis, Reese Dickman, Andrea Powell and Claire Timm earning first place in 2:14.49.
Powell grabbed second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:33.19, while Timm placed fourth in 2:35.74.
Faith Resch won the 50-yard freestyle in 26.15, and Dickman was second in 26.55. Resch also won the 100-yard freestyle in 58.42.
Dickman won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:11.76.
In the 500-yard freestyle, Powell was second in 6:47.98, and Timm was third in 7:02.54.
Resch, Davis, Powell and Dickman teamed up to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:52.08.
New London won the overall contest, 98-63.

Shawano swimmers posted several third- and fourth-place finishes when they hosted Sturgeon Bay on Oct. 5.
Third-place finishes were notched by Tela Hopfensperger in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:41 and the 500-yard freestyle in 6:31, Brynn Hannes in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:31 and Jai Bisterfeldt in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:08.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Bisterfeldt, Lydia Lynch, Courtney Schenk and Hopfensperger placed third in 2:09. Bre Anderson, Lynch, Brynn Walenta and Hannes earned third place in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 5:31.
Jadyn Brown placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 33.38 seconds, while Lynch placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:38.
Hannes finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:28, and Lila Melchior was fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:40.
