Tigerton High School will not have a track and field team this spring season because of a lack of athletes.

“Over the past five years or so, the participation in track and field within the district has been declining,” said Elizabeth Marquardt, the school’s athletic director.

Tigerton had just three girls, and no boys, on last year’s roster, with one of the girls also having since graduated. Holly Meverden had also resigned as the team’s head coach.

“Those who may have been interested in track and field this spring are not participating in a spring sport at school,” said Marquardt.

Marquardt said Tigerton is in the process of potentially identifying another high school to co-op with for spring 2024.

“We have not identified a co-op partner at this time and are working with a local district to determine if a co-op is mutually beneficial,” said Marquardt. “Once a decision is made, we will complete the co-op application for track by June 1, 2023, for spring 2024. So Tigerton will not be able to participate in WIAA competition until spring 2024.”
