Thundercatz come up short in homecoming game

Port Edwards 50, Marion/Tigerton 22
Port Edwards started scoring in the first quarter and didn’t let up until the final buzzer as they put a damper on Marion/Tigerton’s homecoming with a 50-22 win.
Port Edwards was up 34-0 before Braylon Mielke scored on a 2-yard run to make the score 34-8 at halftime.
Then, down 42-8 in the third quarter, Mielke scored again, this time on a 48-yard run. That was followed by a 23-yard touchdown pass from Joey Zimdars to Logan Zietlow to make it 42-22.
Port Edwards added a final TD in the fourth quarter for the 28-point win.
Zimdars completed 8-of-15 pass attempts for 85 yards with one TD and one interception.
Mielke led the run game with 139 yards on 26 carries. Zimdars carried the ball 19 times for 79 yards.
Thomas Grimm caught four passes for 42 yards, and Zietlow caught four passes for 33 yards.
The Thundercatz will travel to Tri-County for a 7 p.m. Oct. 4 game.
Pulaski 42, Ashwaubenon 14
The Red Raiders scored in every quarter en route to a 42-14 win at home.
After a 7-yard run by Bohdan Schmidt that put Pulaski up 7-0, the Jaguars tied the score on an 80-yard TD pass.
Pulaski scored three touchdowns in the second quarter. First, Brock Weideman scored on a 2-yard run. That was followed by a 4-yard run by Sawyer Goodness. An Ashwaubenon TD was answered with a 54-pass scoring pass from Schmidt to Calan Bock to put Pulaski up 28-14 at the half.
Spencer Hakes scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter, and Schmidt completed a 6-yard scoring pass to Jeffrey Smith in the fourth quarter to end the scoring.
Schmidt completed 4-for-4 for 87 yards. Bock led receivers with 54 yards on one catch. Eli Brancefield was the only receiver with multiple catches – two – for 37 yards.
The running game was led by Hakes’ 123 yards on 13 carries and Weideman’s 106 yards on 20 carries.
Pulaski will travel Appleton West for a game at 7 p.m. Oct. 4.
Bonduel 56, Mishicot 6
Bonduel kept its Packerland Conference record perfect at 4-0 with a sound defeat of Mishicot.
The 50-point margin of victory keeps the Bears in first place. The team also has a 5-1 overall record.
Next up is a home game against Peshtigo at 7 p.m. Oct. 3.
Coleman 42, Oconto Falls 20
Oconto Falls kept the game against Coleman tight throughout the first half, but three second-half scores by the visitors were too much to overcome as the Panthers dropped a 42-20 Northwoods Conference game.
Trailing 7-0 after the first quarter, Oconto Falls tied the game on a 2-yard run by Conner Wilquet in the second quarter. The Panthers then took a 14-7 lead on a 60-yard run by Wyatt Laughrin.
Coleman scored twice to hold a 20-14 lead at the half.
Coleman went up 35-14 in the fourth quarter.
The Panthers cut the lead to 35-20 on a 25-yard pass from Alec Krejcarek to Emerich Skarban. Coleman added one more TD for the final score.
Skarban competed 12-of-23 passes for 203 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.
Laughrin led the ground game with 13 rushes for 107 yards. Isaac Bremer had 16 carries for 76 yards. Cole Bozile had one rush for 48 yards.
Bozile caught two balls for 61 yards, and Krejcarek had three catches for 60 yards.
The Panthers travel to Shiocton for a 7 p.m. Oct. 4 contest.
Gillett 28, Gibraltar 12
Gillett won its first game of the season, a 28-12 victory over Across The Bay Conference foe Gibraltar.
The team will travel Algoma for a 7 p.m. Oct. 4 game.
Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy 36, Suring 14
Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy is another local team with a perfect record in 2024.
The 36-14 win over Suring moves Lena/St. Thomas to 4-0 in the conference and 5-0 overall.
Next up is a game at Lena at 7 p.m. Oct. 4 against Wausaukee.
Newman Catholic 38, Menominee Nation 14
The Eagles continue to search for that first win, after suffering a 38-14 loss to Newman Catholic.
Menominee Nation (0-4 in the Mideast Conference) will host Almond-Bancroft at 4 p.m. Oct. 4.
Luxemburg-Casco 27, Shawano 7
The Hawks fell to 1-5 overall after a non-conference loss at Luxemburg-Casco.
Shawano will host Appleton Xavier at 7 p.m. Oct. 4.
Wittenberg-Birnamwood 52, Loyal/Greenwood 28
The Chargers improved to 3-1 in the CWC-Large Conference after a win over Loyal/Greenwood at Loyal.
Wittenberg-Birnamwood will host Colby at 7 p.m. Oct. 4.
