Suring flag memorial effort moves to next phase

Vets 4 Vets of Northeast Wisconsin is moving ahead to the next phase in its efforts to construct a Veterans Flag Memorial at Riverside Park in Suring. The group last year acquired sponsors for the purchase of two benches at the Flag Memorial, which were recently installed.

Now volunteers are seeking additional sponsors for a black granite engraved monument, honoring all branches of the military, and other future additions and improvements to the memorial.

Plans are to have the new monument installed in September, and organizers envision a dedication taking place during the late fall of this year.

To complete this phase of the project and to move forward into the future, Vets 4 Vets is looking for “Flag Memorial Sponsors” who will donate towards the cost and installation of the granite monument and other future improvements at the memorial site.

With a minimum $500 tax-deductible donation, donors would receive an 8” x 8” paver installed at the memorial, inscribed with a veteran’s or loved one’s name. Individuals and organizations are able to purchase one or more Sponsor Share Pavers on a first-come, first-served basis.

A brat fry fundraiser is scheduled for 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, July 2, at the park, which is located at Riverside Park by the old steel bridge on state Highway 32. Visitors will be able to check out the current progress on the Flag Memorial and learn more about future plans.
