Shawano track and field team qualifies 4 individuals, 2 relay teams for state

The Shawano and Menominee Indian track and field teams each qualified athletes for the state meet after competing at the Division 2 Fox Valley Lutheran Sectional in Appleton.

The sectional started on June 17 but had to be competed June 18 after adverse weather came through the area.

The qualifiers will participate in the state meet on June 25 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse.

To qualify for state, an individual or relay must have placed in the top four at the sectional meet. If not in the top four at the sectional, an individual could also qualify for state by having one of the eight best times or distances of all sectional performances, including the first four sectional finishers.

Shawano

Four individual athletes and a pair of relay teams from Shawano qualified for state. Elliott Lowney and Isabel Roloff each qualified for state in two events to lead the Hawks.

Roloff cleared 10 feet, 3 inches to win the pole vault competition and also came in first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.31 seconds. Lowney won the 200 with a time of 22.79 and placed second in the 400 (51.12).

Gage Timm and Morgan Weinig were the other Shawano individuals to qualify. Timm claimed second in the triple jump (43-5¼), while Weinig was fourth in the shot put (37-9¼).

The 4x800 girls relay team of Lydia Beyer, Grace Chelberg, Grace Beyer and Odessa Arce finished second in 9:58.93 to qualify for state. The same four took fourth in the 4x400 relay (4:19.11) to also qualify.

Timm also competed in the long jump, placing eighth after posting a mark of 20-0. Weinig was 10th in the discus (97-10), while Lowney came in fifth in the 100 (11.33).

Chelberg took sixth in the 1,600 (5:43.75), while Arce finished 10th (5:53.36). Guenther placed sixth in the 3,200 (12:27.73) and Grace Beyer was ninth in the 800 (2:33.54).

Jackson Smits took ninth in the discus (131-0) and 14th in the shot put (40-7½). Sean Larson placed 12th in the 110 hurdles (18.45), while Brandon Reed was 14th in 19.09.

Reef Anthony came in sixth in the boys pole vault (12-0), while Onna Hermann took sixth in the girls pole vault (8-6). Aubree Zastrow claimed 12th in the 100 hurdles (17.77).

The boys 4x800 relay placed seventh in 9:10.78 and was formed by Connor Chelberg, Andon Chelberg, Wyatt Brandt and Will Chelberg. Will Chelberg also took 12th in the 3,200 (10:58.13).

Menominee Indian

Menominee Indian’s Guadalupe Corn placed second in the girls shot put to earn a spot at state. She posted a distance of 39-3.

Emma Komanekin finished 13th in the 300 hurdles (53.44) and Cali Shawano came in 14th in the 100 (14.22).

Oconto Falls

Oconto Falls didn’t have any individuals or relay teams place in the top four at sectionals.

Brailyn St. Louis tied for sixth in the high jump (4-10). Josh Saari claimed fifth in the 110 hurdles (16.1) and was 14th in the 300 hurdles (46.73), while Joe Adams placed eighth in the 1,600 (4:52.4) and 10th in the 3,200 (10:47.56).

Hannah Ludemann claimed 12th in the 3,200 (13:32.06). Maddy Przybylski finished 15th in the 800 (2:45.55) and Kearra Champeau was 15th in the 100 (14.24).

Champeau also joined Anna Spaulding, Joana Espino and Hailey Kopke on the 13th-place finishing 4x100 relay (54.91).
